Okay it’s hard to rate a place like this because of the history and ambiance are off the charts but giving it a try. Huge place, long tables everywhere, always crazy busy. Staff does a pretty good just given the job, beers are huge, selection is small classic Bavarian styles, prices are what you expect from a tourist destination, but it’s till totally worth going to see at least once.
The service was terrible I had to change tables 2x so I could get someone willing to take my order.
Worth it to go and to take a look around but if you wanna eat and have some beer you’d better go with the spirit of a monk.
Probably won’t come back.
This huge beer hall has a lot of history but is now like Disney World. The food (Goulasch) came out barely warm. My server was more interested in eating his meal than serving any of the tables in the area. No one cleaned off the table full of crumbs from the previous diners at my table. What a ridiculous mess of a place.
Quite touristy place in the city center. We came here later in the evening and I would call the athmosphere almost rowdy, at least very loud indeed. Overall most people spoke english, not many germans left. Inbetween they had some oompah music. Not sure I need to come back here.
This place turned out to be exactly as it was advertised. It’s a gargantuan, touristy beer hall / restaurant that packs in the punters. The clientele mostly consisted of throngs of Asian and American tourists. A disinterested band was playing oompah music. Staff seemed to be in a state of perpetual angry panic. My group shared a table with a group of grim-looking dudes from northern Germany and made the best of it. There were roughly 3 beers available (marzen, helles, hefe) in addition to some ungodly blends (diesel, radler etc). The food included the kind of stodgy classic fare that you’ll find at every other beer hall in Munich. Service was pretty bad. If you’re passive, it’ll take a long time to get served. Overall, I’m glad to say I’ve had a beer here, but I probably won’t return anytime soon.
[7/4/08] Touristy, noisy, crowded, quite expensive. Service was really bad - took around 30 minutes to get a beer, and after I paid the angry waiter said it doesn’t include service! F**k off. Had one beer and it was very mediocre. Really didn’t like this place.
Visited on 21st April 2014. Huge beerhall in the centre of the City. It’s tourist central and is always heaving but is so vast you can always find a perch. There’s loads of nice touches with paintings and carvings, bands play oompah music in various parts of the venue.
Beer range is OK, do have seasonals advertised on cards on tables. Service is decent, prices steep but it is touristy. You should visit it once just to go there!
