This place is a legendary Chicago beer bar. With their recent expansion, they have undoubtedly vaulted themselves into a top 10 beer destination in the United States. Their food menu is very solid, high end pub food with Belgian flare (eat mussels, drink beer). Their beer menu will blow your face off. With the expansion, I believe I counted 62 drafts. Even among the "good" beer bars, though, their list is very special. Few bars can fill more than 30 drafts with truly interesting choices. They can. And then there’s the 22 page bottle list.
If you’re visiting Chicago, this is a MUST. MUST. Visit. If you live here and haven’t been, shame on you.
The only disclaimer is these guys get BUSY. The staff is extremely lovely, so go at a time when you can actually talk to them.

Easy to find location. Busy, so son and I sat at bar. Friendly staff with good positive response to short pours to rate. Good selection. After dinner stop, so we did not try food. Is the second best bar so far in Chicago and well worth a visit.
On my recent visit to Chicago I visited 8 craft beer places over 5 days. Hopleaf was far and away my favorite (not counting Three Floyds which it’s probably not a fair comparison). In fact I went out of my way to visit twice on my short trip! The people are great here...staff and patrons both during my 2 visits. The vibe here was great...and crowded both times...but each time I got a solo seat at the bar fairly quickly. I thought the beer selection here was phenominal...a "really" nice sampling of local Chicago craft beers and beyond. Top that off with some really fantastic food (the grilled cashew butter & fig sandwich is to die for!) and you definitely have a winning combination. With a few extra Dreadnaughts in my car the night before flying back to NJ...it was easy to find a couple of worthy souls to gift them to. This is a must visit for the craftbeer fan while in Chicago...you will have great beer and food...and likely stirke up some really good conversations.
Hopleaf is one of the great beer bars of the US. Fantastic selection, with an emphasis on Belgians. The staff are knowledgeable and will help you find your beer, if you’re in doubt. But get there early, if you can. They also have an amazing menu, with excellent food. The Duck Reuben is delicious, as is the Nueske Ham sandwich. But the stand-out are the mussels. Be sure to get the Belgian-style and ask for extra bread, because you will want to sop up every last bit of the delicious broth. Mussels also come with a huge cone of tasty frites. The crowd is mixed, and very friendly. I have never had a bad time at Hopleaf.
Oh man, what can I say about the Hop Leaf that hasn’t already been said here. But I need another place rating so my ratings will actually count so here goes. This is the number one stop for excellent beer and food while in Chicago. The atmosphere is top notch and the only downside would be that, given its booming popularity, it is no longer the cozy neighborhood bar that it once was. If you don’t want to fight the crowds go at an off time. The beer selection is the best in the city (Map Room is a close 2d) and the excellent and reasonably priced food puts Hop Leaf over the top. Prices are what you would expect in the city. Not cheap, not ridiculously expensive. Most servers are knowledgeable. If you can only get to one bar in Chicago make it the Hopleaf.
Visited on a Friday early enough to get a seat at the bar. Drank goose island and Belgians on draft. Fantastic selection. The Belgian style mussels are outstanding. Staff are friendly, a great place, look forward to coming back
If you love traditional beers from their respective countries, served at the proper temperature, in the correct glassware, this if the ultimate place to be. Love the hard to find beers, traditional beers, and classic beers served here. Take in 5 or 6 beers and then go to a Cubs home game by way of 4 minute cab ride. Can’t really express how great a place this is. Just bring your VISA, things can get real ugly real fast in terms of $$$.
