I was so conflicted about rating Il Bambino because it is either my favorite or second-favorite restaurant in Astoria, but my rating here is purely as a place for beer. You don’t go to Il Bambino for a beer: if you get a beer, it’s to complement a fantastic meal. You wouldn’t expect this much from a "panini place," but meats, cheeses, and homemade sauces/ailoi/oils are incredible. Some favorites include the mozzarella, basil pesto and chili oil crostino and the meatloaf, caramelized onions, and spicy mayo panino.
The beer selection is limited: about 7 regular bottles (no tap selections) and a weekly special. All of it is craft. The weekly special tends to be good but not extremely rare (ex: Heavy Seas Small Craft Warning, Two Bros. Domaine Dupage). Beers are served in wine glasses.
Definitely come here for food, and if you are in the mood for a beer, they’ll probably have something you can enjoy.
