Stopped in after waking around downtown. Cool loft style space lots of taps. We went on back deck over looking part of harbor so kid could run around and cause mischief. I had an Oktoberfest which was good but probably should have tried more of their speciality maybe later. Friendly enough staff. Cool spot for sure.
Huge location right along the waterfront. Has sort of a mix of steampunk and nautical vibes going on. Sat down at the very long bar. Pretty empty on a Thursday afternoon.
They have a pretty long list of house beers here available on tap and in growlers, also have some packaged beers (cans) available to go. The service here was just okay, but sufficient.
The best of the beers I tried were a couple of IPAs, though admittedly I mostly just tried the hoppy beers and some sour offerings. I thought the stuff we had was generally okay but nothing mindblowing...not really bad, at least.
It’s worth a stop as there are some good and at least interesting beers here, but it’s not the best stuff in town.
I just had the worst service of my life in this place. Sitting at the bar having a beer while my wife was shopping. She came in and sat down. They were busy, but not overly so. The bartender went by many times over the next ten minutes ignoring her while she tried to order a beer. When he finally brought her one she commented on the slowness of the service. He proceeded to pick up the beer and take it away. There are too many other good places in Portland to go instead of this place. It’s a shame because my beer was quite good.
I liked the building, liked the vibe, like the food. There was a lot of space so it didn’t feel like people were on top of you. It had a lively and fun atmosphere on a Friday night, but I wasn’t really feeling there beer. In fact that’s the only thing that lowered there score. Otherwise it was great.
Pretty busy for just opening on Tuesday. Pretty chill vibe with viewing of the brewery and distillery. Had a full beer and a few tasters for $15. The food looked good too but I was not hungry yet. Def return.
Liquid Riot is centrally located on Commercial Street at the top of Union Wharf. It is actually quite a big place inside with a dining room and bar. You can see straight into the brewery as you head towards the bar. We sat at the bar with a rather nice view onto the harbour. They had 14 taps of their own beer on offer during our visit, which ain’t bad. We had a pretty big flight of beers between us (@ $2.50 per sample). Beers were all pretty interesting in style and quite enjoyable, although it can be a bit hit and miss. The server was very friendly and I liked the laid-back atmosphere. They also have a tiny bottle shop next door to get some beer to takeway including a few limited releases. A solid spot with a fun and interesting variety of beer on offer. Worth a visit.
A good brewpub in downtown Portland. I visited here on a weekday afternoon in July 2015. A nice cozy interior, small bar, and outdoor seating (with view of the harbor). A pretty large beer selection, with some unique offerings. I tried a vanilla wheat stout, kinderbock, foreign stout, and sour ale. Nothing crazy good, but all solid offerings. The food menu is somewhat limited and expensive. I had the lobster roll, which was delicious. Overall it is a decent stop - nice location (although parking can be a problem), beer is ok but plenty of styles to choose from, food is good but pricey.
This place has changed names and shrunk it’s dining room since my last visit. Still pretty much the same otherwise, although the quality of the beers has much improved.
Re: the french fries...We ordered a cone to share as an appetizer and they were pretty good. However, I received a side order of fries with my burger (I had asked for a salad but it was our server’s first day) and they were mushy. Learn to fry consistently!
Stopped in twice on my last swing through Portland, great service both times. I’m still not sure where to park. Nice big modern brewpub ambiance. Tried most of the house beers which were uniformly watery and failed to live up to the descriptions on the menu. They’re still getting the distillery going it seems as there wasn’t much selection of house spirits. Cocktails with house spirits were good but nothing special for the high price point. I ordered french fries to share with friends and was frankly embarrassed when they brought out the plate of lukewarm, undercooked, grocery store freezer section potato turds. Pretzel and chocolate cake were great though.
