They opened thursday nov 19 .My Wife and I visited on mon the 23.We were pleasently surprised with 66 Beers on tap.The beers ranged from Guiness,Middle ages,Newcastle,Slyfox,Green Flash,Sierra Nevada,Great Lakes and Flying Dog to name a few.The kitchen serves wings,burgers,wraps,sandwiches and soups and salads.Well worth the visit.Beer prices range from $2.50 for a PBR to $8.00 for a Lindemans Framboise.Cheers.
Stopped here on two days in a row. 19 and 20 July 2013. The reason I went back–to-back days is simple, the draft list! 69 Craft taps that change on a weekly basis. (it even changed the second night we stopped in) The bartenders are knowledgeable on most aspects of beer and we had one very good bartender on 20 July that made suggestions and knew exactly what she was talking about. The food is standard pub grub. I had hot wings (with sweet potatoes fries) one night and a Caesar Chicken wrap the other night. No problems there, just standard. Honestly, J. Ryan’s is the best place to grab a pint in downtown Syracuse. It has all the other watering holes in that area beat hands down.
Wonderful local bar where everyone comes after work. Crowded at times. Loud but the beer selection is excellent. Droid fluid on cask, vanilla bean brown home of the slogan I’d tap that....69 different ways.
Had a great time here. Good mix of people, young, older, beautiful, not so beautiful. Great tap list, service was eager, although when she brought the wrong pint to one of my friends, and he called her on it, she first tried to pass it off as "that’s the way the one you ordered tastes." Umm, he ordered a chocolate porter, and you brought some kind of amber ale. Quite a gap to cover there. Anyway, despite that we all had a great time.
A: The place has a very laid back feel to it, you can see that it kind fo tries to have an irish motive on the exterior but there is very little decor on the inside.
Q: They have probably one of the best tap lists that I have seen in New York State. They had some beers on tap that I have never seen and most of them were solid quality.
S: Service was decent, bartenders were willing to provide samples and waitresses were a little lax but nice.
S: Solid Selection...69 taps of all different varieites and spread across the country. They were getting Founders on tap for a while now even though there is no Founders distribution in the area.
F: Food was solid...at our table we ordered Chili, Reuben Sandwich, and Cajun Chicken Quesadillas and everyone really had no complaints at all.
V: Beers were all reseasonably prices, food was reasonably priced.
Overall, I would say that this is the premier bar stop while in Syracuse. Enough Said.

This place has an every changing selection that always surprises. Every night there are two beers on special, crafts of course. Ever changing taps make for a great experience and tasting night. Sometimes a big surprise with whats available. Pitcher prices are also good. Good menu for food, especially the nachos. The porch is ideal in the summer and fall months. Service was great with really fun wait staff. Definitely a good place for a drink, and in a good location. J. Ryan’s is a weekly visit!
November 2011. A worthwhile stop. Lots of brews on tap, though my Breckenridge Vanilla Porter was served slightly warm and under carbonated. The other guests in my party did not have the same issue. Daily beer specials and on good microbrew, not macro junk. I’ll stop back again next time I’m out that way.
Formerly MacGregor’s and then Kelly Cole’s Improper, this reincarnation of an Irish-themed watering hole is a welcoming -- if somewhat loud and sometimes crowded -- beer destination. It’s away from the major drinking thoroughfares of downtown, but not that far from Han(g)over Square.
The taps -- 66 of them -- are plentiful and with a ton of variety. There was a large chalkboard with some of their temporary offerings, and they were pretty fast getting me my drinks, even on a busy evening. The food was pretty good and the prices were about middle of the road.
This place has gone out of business a couple times for failing to pay their taxes, so I’m hoping that this isn’t just a quick cash-in and ends up being a Syracuse beer staple for years to come.
This place has been around for more than two years and time to go out of the way to see it. I immediately liked: its downtown convenient location, you can do a walking tour to all the key places and drink as much craft beer as you want. It was very nice inside and outside. There were at least 48 taps, likely more, and they were organized, i.e. the Belgiums and Germans were together. And I was immediately greeted and made at ease by Kelly Coles. Oh and the name. Oh and people from the food and beverage industry were hanging out there. And its very comfortable inside. They set a couple taps while I was there. Recommended.
Went here after playing in a volleyball league. Had a better selection than most on tap. Usually had a couple of their new arrivals on special which was nice. Ambiance was good, not alot of the college crowd. Service was a little slow however. Good place for a beer.
