This is a decent little place. Beer wise you can get some of the Green Man brews, none of which blew me away though. The Menu had some different items on it (parsnip fries, scotch eggs) which was nice. Glad I stopped by but I would probably save liver for a couple other places.
While visiting downtownI I discovered a nice bar on Patton Ave. It reminds you of pubs in Ireland. The bartender,Clare was excellent. They do live music on a regular basis. I enjoyed some of the Green Man beers that are brewed in Asheville.
I went here on two consecutive nights as it was a very short walk from where i was staying. A good selection of regional brews on tap. I saw other patrons being brought tasters and they really try to please those unfamiliar with different styles of beers with patient explanations.
The food ranged from pub type snacks to full meals and what I had was very good.
I didn’t get to hear any of the music, but I looked over who had been playing there during the month and they book some decent shows for a small venue.
Visited after midnight on a Saturday evening. The bar was pretty packed for a music event that was taking place. Dingy, dark interior with a large central bar. It was pretty tough to navigate the beer menu considering the crowds and lack of light, so I ended up choosing from a single row of taps instead of trying to check everything. From what I could make out, the bar was mostly serving Green Man stuff alongside a few other locals. The Green Man lager I settled on was decent. Overall, this really isn’t a place I’ll rush back to. There’s simply so many quality beer options in town that this place gets drowned out.
Jack of the Wood has the comfortable, traditional feel of an English pub. There’s a central bar with red fairy lights, lots of dark wood and brick walls with some nice decorative touches - a wooden Benskins sign, a rustic beam with green man faces and a cute wooden cherub with a winged collar. They have 21 taps, 19 of which were on. We popped in for a nightcap on a Sunday evening and had a nice relaxing time listening to the band playing in the corner. I think the staff and the band members outnumbered the customers but that suited me as, after a busy RBWG weekend, it was nice to relax and wind down.

Interior is dark and cozy, unpretentious, clearly a loved neighborhood bar. The bartender is friendly and makes you feel welcome without overdoing it. All the beers I saw offered were craft brews, with emphasis on local offerings - nary a drop of industrial or overly popular beer. I received my lunch in good time, and it is most pleasing. One of the best veggie burgers I have ever stuffed in my pie hole! HIghly recommended.
Stopped in here sort of randomly when LAB was closed the day we tried to visit that. Had originally intended to just get some beers. I had the sampler of Green Man beers, and they also had a nice selection of mostly other North Carolina micros going. One cask as well. Decided to give the food a try after glancing at the menu and seeing that it didn’t look like the typical pub fare. Nice Scottish egg. But the rabbit ragout was absolutely incredible - priced at $14, it would have sold for double that in a more "upscale" place. Friendly prompt service, we ate at the bar. Small band doing primarily acoustic bluegrass was actually pleasant rather than annoying. Really liked this place.
Feels like an old school English pub with lots of wood and low lighting. Service was a little overbearing, came to my table every 2 minutes asking if we were ordering food and it became frustrating. Beers selection was decent, dominated by Green Man, but a lot of other good local stuff. Food was the highlight, I got the bison nachos and was more than satisfied. Price was average, although beer prices aren’t listed on the menu or board, so that’s strange. Pretty decent overall, worth a stop, but I don’t think I will seek this place out again next time I’m in town.
