I love this place. Dimly lit, with a more sophisticated vibe than most. Amazing food. Seriously, try the truffle fries & mussels. The margherita pizza is really good, too. I love Jolly Pumpkin’s beers, so there’s always something enjoyable on tap, though the list is somewhat small. Usually around 8 or so JP brews. They also have a list of North Peak beers, too. Kind of expensive, but definitely worth it if you’re into good food & farmhouse ales.
Good number of beers on draft. I wish there was more of the Jolly Pumpkin versus the North Peak beers. Pizza was good, but my waiter was on his way out and wasn’t very attentive and asked for us to cash out immediately after getting food, despite not being ready to leave.
As we didn’t have time to go out to the newer brewery/taproom in Dexter...and never having been to this original location...we stopped here after a visit to Corner Brewery in Ypsilanti. This is an especially cool old bar with a lot of character. I love the custom customer mugs hanging from the ceiling. The were a number of standards as well as specials when we visited this past Friday. The Bam Noire is probably the finest of their standards in my opinion...and the Diabolical is close behind. The scene stealer though was the limited addition La Vida. This is a must stop for sour fans...they also have some really nice crossover and introductory sours. I look forward to getting to the brewery on my next visit to the area.
Insanely packed on a Saturday night. Even more so than the other downtown places. Did not try the food. Bartenders did as well as you can expect considering the business. Lots of great beer on tap including some rarities. Not cheap, but good prices for the quality. Would love to go again at a slower time, but, a worthy stop.
Visited Nov-2011. Two levels of wooden decor, college football game behind the bar, and cool artwork on the walls. Knowledgeable friendly waitstaff gave an interesting overview of the beers when he brought out the sampler. We ate a deliciously amazing South Pacific pizza and a tasty Porchetta sandwich - my favourite part of not being able to finish the pizza was the thought of having it as a midnight snack. 20 or more delicious beers available on tap and bottled, ready to go. Pretty awesome ambiance too with some of the locals cheering for the Wolverines. I would return in a heartbeat if we were near the city again. (5/9/13/9/8/17) 88
Visited on a Sunday night, the place was crowded but not full. Got seated at once, and the service was excellent and quick all the time. Lovely pizza too, one of the best I’ve had in a very long time. And their own are equally good, the North Peak beers rather boring. Spent quite some time here, no urge to leave when the beers and service are this good.
On a Tuesday afternoon, during spring break, this place was quiet and chill. There were a handful of other craft brew enthusiasts, and a cool alt rock / indie rock playlist. The bartender was cool, and friendly, and cute (in that hipster-punk kinda way), but she seemed either overwhelmed or distracted - to be fair there was some kinda plumbing issue going on behind the counter. There was a solid selection of a dozen or so beers on tap, mostly Jolly Pumpkin, but also a handful of other brewers in the Northern United Liquid Libations group. The food was tasty, although the prices were on par with city levels. Overall a place I’d like to visit again; however, I could also see this place being crazy packed on any given weekend (it is in the heart of U of M’s campus afterall).
The beer is Jolly Pumpkin’s and Northern Breweries. It’s good but not as broad as I would like. The food Is quite good - a plus, though I would not mind a broader selection (though this is much more true for the beer than the food). The ambience is a little wierd - an Hawaian theme but with a slightly tacky, owner family theme. Overall though it is a good place that is well worth a visit now and then.
