K-Zoo must stop destination. A little difficult to find, but not bad if you know your way around. Nice old brewery converted into cafe. Great selection of beers. Good session beer when I went. "Hell Hath No Fury." Descent live music on the weekends. I go everytime I’m in Kalamazoo. A must stop even if just for an afternoon beer.
had already been a bell’s drinker for over a decade before i stepped foot into the cafe a few months ago.
we arrived at dinner time ready to eat and immediately forked over a sizable cover for a band outside that we never had any intention of seeing. our bartender was rude with absolutely no explanation whatsoever-- we were all familiar with the beers but had a question about size and were treated like we were martians.
with no seats available in or outside except for the extremely stuffy attic, we camped out upstairs alone, downed two delicious beers and left.
my entire group was comprised of big bell’s fans from across the state and we were all sorely disappointed. the night was saved when we ended up at old peninsula for awesome food and drink a few minutes later thanks to a quick phone call with a friend and western alumni. save yourself the trouble and pick up a six pack instead-- they’re really cheap locally.
Had no problem finding the place coming in from out of town but it was light out. We had good and friendly service, although there is no table service, you get everything yourself. I informed the bartender that we had never been there and he was very helpful. Our food was excellent. I had the Angus burger while my wife had the Portebello mushroom sandwich. All of the usual suspects were there on tap. I only wish I could have had something that was not bottled. My wife liked the chalkboard in the bathroom for those of you compelled to doodle. The artwork in the place added to the feel as well as the stained glass windows. My three year old daughter liked the dead insects on display. Big open beer garden outside. Cool place that I will go to everytime I am in the area.
This is all about the beer, the food is improving, but honestly I really don’t care. I am fan of many of their beers and they often have beers that you can only get here, well worth the trip, just good beer.
I grew up at Bells... and to see how far they have come makes me smile! Ambiance is perfect from the main hallway to the tap room to the (beer) garden and the service is as friendly and helpful as you'll find anywhere. Selection was great without any majorly rare brews on tap but a ton of brew pub only releases that I have wanted to try were available... walking into the General Store and accidentally discovering the second bottling of Black Note available also didn't hurt! Food looked awesome and menu looked creative but didn't get to eat. Overall made me wish I still lived in K-zoo!
A big disapointment. The place is nice, a bit run down and there was lots of construction going on, but fine. Very poor selection, they served nothng but Bell’s, which is fine, but there was nothing there that I couldnt get at a bottle shop 1,000 miles away. I got served in a plastic cup, wtf? Not particularly cheap, service was slow, and the food was a poor selection of food that is not very good. I expected a lot, and was thorougly disapointed. New Holland and Founders are far far better selections in south-west Michigan.
Favorite brewery I have been to. Immense selection, always an assortment of interesting and friendly strangers, eccentric decorations, unique events, cool hand dryers and great smelling urinal cakes. Such a laid back atmosphere with great knowledgable and friendly staff. The back room renovation was key: it makes it possible to hang out and drink without paying cover and yelling over music. However I wish there was more variety to the musical acts. The incredibly small kitchen does a great job at unique and tasty items, lots of improvement will no doubt be had with the kitchen/dining addition. Beer garden is tons of fun when nice weather is available and allows parents to bring their kids to run around and not disrupt others. Just about my favorite place to drink when I have to wear pants. Oh, and eccentric day.

Great place, my first micro brewery. Usually a great selection and some excellent pub only selections. Could use
some waitresses though

If you like Bell’s Beer, you have to visit the brew pub. The ambiance is lacking, and I agree that the service is middle of the road. Employees forcing themselves to be hippies, and missing the true meaning of laid back. The selection is outstanding, in the bar and the store. Food was middle-of-the-road. Place is cash only. If you go seeking only great beer, you will not be disappointed. You may get lucky and get to try a new or limited brew.
The best place in Michigan, a must for any beer lover. There selection is great, and if it is not on tap you can usually get a bottle (expedition). The beer garden is a great place just to hang out and drink some fine brews. The food is great, grill right outside. Whenever I’m in the area I always stop.
