Visited for dinner after a long day at Legoland. The interior of the restaurant is very new, and tastefully decorated. The had 8-10 of their own beers on draft, a couple of which seemed to be special / one-offs. The food was really fresh, and much more tasty than I was expecting. My family was accommodated well, and everyone had a nice time. This was certainly a pleasant surprise - recommended after a day at Legoland.
76 = ★★★ (Worth the visit, must for locals, and visitors with time)
I only use the total score, not the component parts.
My favorite brewpub for breakfast - I’ve been here twice for breakfast, longingly watching the parking lot to Legoland, but never had the time to go there, since the beerhunt has been on. A good selection of beers - 10 on my first visit and 4 new ones the year after. We’ve been lucky to be served two sets of "half" samplers - also of beers, not regularly on the samplers. Nice and good priced breakfast. The interior is pretty standard - lots of low booths and soft plastic covered benches.
Another brewpub located in an office complex - seems to be a theme in the San Diego area. This one is located next to the convention center. All I can say is I’m glad I went to the KS in downtown first. I was less impressed with the beer here. Might be my imagination but the same beers I had downtown (Red Trolley and Oktoberfest) were not nearly as good here. Red Trolley smelled a little skunky and the Oktoberfest didn’t have much flavor at all. Completely different than what I experienced at the downtown location. The food was okay, nothing special. It’s strange that there can be such a difference between the two locations. Stick with the downtown location.
Similar to BJ’s. BJ’s atmosphere and service, but you can only get Karl Strauss beers, which aren’t that great. Didn’t try the food. Typical pricing for this sort of place. Really nothing special here.
A great brewery/restaurant to visit in the area (the one is sorrento valley also great). Beers have good prices, but the food is a little pricy (and very good), so I order the excellent chicken strip appetizer as a meal. Ordering the beer sampler is great too. They only offer their own beers I think. There beers are sometimes good: I like Jeff and Jerr’s hootch and their hefeweizen. The location is nice to walk around and next to Legoland and the Carlsbad shopping outlet. I come here about once a month. I love it.
I work at this one, and first off I would just like to say that picture is from the LA Karl Strauss, not Carlsbad. Anyway, like I said, I work at this one and I think the food is great, the people are great, and the place has a great atmosphere.

Good food. Fairly upscale and not typical brewpub food. Expensive, but not overpriced. The beer is good if you like mostly German inspired beers. The beer is certainly well-made, though not extremely unique.
