Letís face it people who work in homebrew stores are nerds. I have a hard time understanding what makes nerds tick so I usually avoid interaction with them. If you shop @ Keystone Homebrew Supply you canít avoid interacting with nerds. After a few visits I loosened up and talk to the employees @ Keystone more than I ever thought I would. The employees can be helpful and know homebrewing. Store itself is small but well stocked with grains, brewing equipment, brew kits, (swingtop) bottles, liquid malts, hops (plugs, pellets, & whole leaf), and plenty of yeast strains. In addition there is a stock of winemaking supplies, and a side business of brewrania (taps, mirrors, neons, towels, etc) which comes with a large mark-up. If you are interested in home-brewing and live in the area this is a good place to visit.
Huge new building filled with lots of beer and wine making supplies, along with a nice selection of glassware and other breweriana. Awesome staff who are always extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Whether you need to know what kind of hops go with a Belgian wit, or a whole lesson on beginner brewing, someone will be all too happy to help. Selection seems to be pretty good. Iím still a beginner so I only get the extract with specialty grains pre-made kits, but it looks like they have lots of options for all-grain brewers, and a wide variety of hops and dry and liquid yeasts. Some of the kits seem a little pricey compared to certain online retailers, but the difference is about the cost of shipping so itís a wash. With the scarcity of homebrew shops, itís nice to have an awesome one just a few miles away.
Great a staff and a very large selection. Had everything I needed and then some. Plenty of books, equipments, and ingredients to keep you busy for quite a long time. The person who helped me along the way was very friendly and seemed eager, and genuinely happy to be helping. Iíll definitely be back.
The staff is awesome here they will take your calls and help you out always .... when you are at the store it is a bit cramped but jam packed with supplies and they are hardly ever out. Bought my first brew kit here and will always recommend people to stop by and learn from these guys.
Probably the best place in the area. Plenty of ingredients, which although not always in stock because lets face it they are constantly selling, they always have useful hints for substitutions, additions, changes, whatever. Very knowledgeable, helpful, and dedicated to what they do. They also sell wine making supplies, spores for mushrooms, rhizomes, glassware, and signs. They also have a pretty regular email about new stuff, a newsletter with coupons, they sponsor a homebrew club, bjcp class, and phillybeerweek events. I see no reason to go anywhere else if you live in the area.
Iím a newbie (six batches so far) so my experience with home-brew stores is limited (not to mention the fact that we have NO home-brew shops in NYC?!!). Helpful staff with a less than stocked supply. Still I envy Eastern PA home-brewers and beer lovers. So many choices!
Best homebrew supply place in the Montco, NW Philly, Bucks area. Good selection, very knowledgeable staff, fresh ingredients. Keystone also does a huge wine making business in the fall. Thursday nights are homebrew meeting nights.
