I am writing an updated review since Goozlepipe & Guttzworks recently opened.
First I would like to say something about the subpar reviews.
It seems some people went during the remodel when the bar dropped from 84 taps to around 20, and the size of the kitchen was greatly reduced. I do not think it is truly fair to judge the place based on this, sort of like rating an infected beer that the brewer has said was a mistake.
The new place, should it be 2 places? They are connected and have the same menu and beers, but are completely different styles. One is a very beer centric bar with TVs, giving it beer and sports bar feel. The other, Goozlepipe is like nothing I have ever seen.
Goozlepipe has a great bar to sit at and just look around. It is a steampunk themed bar and every detail has been considered, from the over 1 million pennys on the wall, to the 99 bottles of beer on the wall (only SA Utopias), to the beautiful and giant fan, the copper tables, the steampunk paraphernalia, the windows/paintings... The place is just stunning, you could spend hours just looking around.
- Ambiance is out of this world!
- Service, there were slow times in the past, with the larger staff and larger kitchen I feel these days are gone. I went 4 times while in jax over the holidays and food and beer came quickly. The bartenders had some great recs too.
Selection 140? 150 taps? yes they have 3 or 4 bmc beers, but the other 140+ is a beautiful mix of wild ales, ipas, stouts, lagers....
For those that had a bad experience during the remodel I implore you to try the new place it is gorgeous, has good food, an expanded and better menu now, and a top notch tap selection. Truly not to be missed
When I visited: Late March 2014.
What I had: Over the course of two visits – New Belgium Spring Blonde, Stone Enjoy By IPA - 04-20-14, Intuition Ale Works Jon Boat Kolsch, Freigeist & Jester King Sauer Power, and New Belgium Rampant Imperial IPA on tap, Chicken Caesar Wrap with Fries, fish entree with salad, and several white wines for the Mrs.
What I liked: Fun and bustling atmosphere with a fairly diverse crowd, lots of space between tables, impressive tap list even during construction, our server was efficient, hilarious and made great drink recommendations, had an awesome chat with one of the locals at the bar, very reasonable prices.
What I disliked: Food left something to be desired but we had such a good time that we didn’t really mind.
Would I go back? Definitely, and I’m sure this place will be even better once the renos are done.
Overall Rating: 84
I went back recently to give this place another shot. It was worse than last time. It took an hour to get our food and when the food finally came, half of it was missing. Besides that, they only had 13 beers on tap, two of which were budlight and yuengling. The only IPA they had in the WHOLE place was Bell’s Two Hearted (which is great, but really?) Then I asked for a stout and the only stout they had in the entire place was Guinness. It wasn’t even on tap, they only had it in cans. I don’t understand for the life of me how this place is "world class." The local dive bar has better beer and service. If you’re in the Kings Street area just save yourself some time and go to Dahlia’s Pour House.>>>>>>>>>>>
Maybe I went into this place with too high of expectations, but I was not all that impressed. The beer selection was ok, but considering how high it ranked in Florida I expected much more. The beer was good, but nothing too rare or out of the ordinary. My server was horrible and I used to be in the service industry while in college so I tend to be understanding, but it was awful. When I asked for what was on tap the waitress gave me a hand written list of maybe 20 beers. I know they had more than that, but it seemed like pulling teeth to find more out from the waitress. Once she took my order, she never came back. I had to get some one new every time I ordered a new beer. The beer that they did have is decent for Jacksonville, but not one of the top places in Florida. It’s sad to say this, but the World of Beer in Jacksonville arguably has a better selection. The only saving grace for this place was the food. I need to check this place out again. Maybe next time it’ll be better and I’ll update my rating accordingly.
Can’t believe how high the ratings are. I had to double check this was the same place. Pretty Underwhelming. Dive sports bar vibe. They only had about 30 taps on the board that had many blank lines. It was hard to see from our seat and the android app didn’t work -- so we had to get up and walk over to the board several times. Nothing crazy rare. Tried some new-to-me locals. Had a sampler appetizer platter that was typical fried bar food. Waitress was nice, but busy. Eh. We must have hit it at a really bad time.
Great place. Usually 84 taps and about 500 bottles however they are under construction expanding the place. Not their fault. They had 20 drafts with some locals like Green Room and Innovation. Not bad. Bottle list was huge but the 7 or 8 I wanted were all offsite in a cooler due to construction. Decent appies for food. The bartender (Cassy) was awesome. Very attentive, friendly, helpful. I will be back after the construction is complete.

Very casual....good beer and food. The selection has been scaled back due to a renovation project that has taken over their storage space. I’m basing my review on a previous visit which revealed an extensive selection.
A little cramped and dingy inside, but so much beer on tap who cares. And the food is pretty solid as well. All kinds of awesome rotating stuff and hard to find beers, at reasonable sampling prices as well.
It’s difficult for me to rate this place as it’s undergoing some serious extensions/refurb works so has a reduced tap list. Anyways.... Kickbacks is a cool, laid-back bar with a focus on quality beer. Tap list is (usually) extensive and varied. Bottle selection was interesting and large, but you will have to shell out big-time for some of the more limited stuff. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Food is tasty classic American bar fare. Entertainment comes in the form of Danny Rowland who can be found in the bar some 24 hours a day! A top-quality beer venue. Looking forward to revisiting in the future.
Glad to spend a couple hours here on a recent biz trip. If I lived in Jacksonville, I’d want to be here all the time. Nice neighborhood vibe, eclectic clientele, unpretentious surroundings, and an absolutely massive tap list. Waiter was super cool, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and I’m happy I just went with dude’s recommendations throughout. Didn’t have any food besides some sweet potato fries, but my host assured me the menu was tip-top pub grub overall. Really impressed overall.
Visited during RBWG JAX. Great atmosphere, lots of good to world class beers on tap, spot on service. The food I had, their chicken wings were really tasty. I understand they had some special beers on for RBWG, but I’m an convinced they have a great selection normally. I was surprised Jacksonville had a beer spot this impressive. Definitely worth a visit or two.
