Huge selection of beers and food. I have never had a bad meal there, but I have waited a while for some. Servers are great and very knowledgeable about their products. The owner is amazing and the place is a cool joint. One of my favorite hang out spots in Jax.
Place rating #100. Without any doubt this is the new Champ of beer bars. Fantastic food. 85 taps with a new Belgian beer pub expansion coming around new years with an additional 135 taps. The greatest bartender (Andrew) of all time. 600+ vintage bottle catalogue. Open 20 hours a day....this leads to Good Gourd at breakfast. Not one thing I can complain about!
Not the best area in Jacksonville bot not scary. tap selection AWESOME! Bottle selection AWESOME! seriously has to be the best in Florida. If there is somewhere better please tell me. service is usually really good. most waiters and bartenders are great. even the owner if you get the chance to meet him is really nice. only gripe food can range from brilliant to blah so be careful and ask your waiter, but if you are in jville go visit.
A-First thing you notice walking in is the couple hundred tap handles hanging from the ceiling and the really cool beer related decor. A bunch of beer signs and hundreds of bottles decorate the wall. I went here four nights and saw a stellar variety of different people.
S- I had 4 different servers over the few days that I was there and all of them were really up to snuff. They were knowledgeable about the beers and the menu and all their recommendations were dead on.
Sel- A huge board on the wall was the tap list of 84. Everything from local stuff from Intuition and Bold City and then pretty much stuff from every brewery available in Florida. CCB was on tap as well as many Sweetwater and terrapin brews plus stuff from Southern Tier and a bunch of belgians....I mean I can do this all day. The bottle selection BINDER was about 60 pages and was arranged by style. At the back there was a specific vintage selection that I ordered a few things off of. I also had a few beers that were extremely rare and had never heard of or seen before. I enjoyed and 08 Insanity that was STELLAR!
F- I wish that I had more time to eat there but I had just about every appetizer they had on the menu and I also had a grilled chicken ceaser salad the last night I was there. All the food was amazing and the menu was really extensive for the size of the place. The food prices were really low for the quality of food and portion size.
V- My beers were all very well priced and the bottles were priced very low for a normal establishment. Only maybe a 1 or 2 dollar markup on large format bottles. Pints were priced lower than most beer places in Florida.
All together if you’re going to be within a 100 mile radius of this place seek it out.
This is the place to go in Jacksonville if you want good beer and good food. A huge tap list plus a large and ever-changing bottle selection. The staff is typically knows a good amount about the beers on tap and almost every time I’ve been there the owner has come over to give more info about what is available. There are usually a lot of local (i.e., Florida) beers available like Cigar City, Bold City, and Intuition. The food is great too. It is way too easy to spend all day here. And, if you need some food to nurse a hangover, the breakfasts are huge and very tasty. Bold City and Intuition breweries are just down the street too.
Kickbacks is a serious beer bar with a nice atmosphere and great selection. Tap list is enormous- just completely insane. It is listed up on the wall in micro font so bring your reading glasses because there are 60+ beers to choose from. ON TAP! Kickbacks is sort of an oddity since Jacksonville is not a beer city by any means, but in this area you have Bold City, Intuition Aleworks, and Kickbacks all within five blocks of each other (though I would not recommend walking between them since the neighborhood is semi-ghetto). Food here has been pretty good every time I’ve been. Service is good. Really, no need to sit at the bar. Go get a table and have a blast or sit outside. Tap list usually has Cigar City, Bold City, Intuition, Swamp Head if you want Florida locals. Really almost a world class beer bar in one of the most random locations ever. You must go here.
A little crowded by the time I got there, but still had no wait to get a table. The server, George, was very knowledgeable about the beers that were on tap and in bottles and was able to recommend some very nice brews. The food took some time to come out, but I didn’t really mind with a delicious Two Hearted in my hand. Could easily spend a few weeks in this place just tasting. Would definitely come back.
I will keep this short and simple, if you have the chance to go, go. I know this has been mentioned, but if Steve knows you are there via ratebeer or BA, he’ll make sure you have one helluva time. If he ain’t, ask for Jake aka jakers, John aka Crush, Alex or my go to guy Andrew aka one-eye-willie-come-try-kill-me, and tell em the same. This is a great place to get real beer and people watch. Trust me,totally worth hunting for parking. Do yourself a favor, if you have a facebook, keep your eye on their wall to see what is getting tapped that day. One last thing, sit in the high top tables closest the bathrooms, meet chet and hold the hell on!
Best bar/restaurant/gastropub that I have ever been to! Steve and his staff truly know how to welcome people and make them feel at home. The food there is amazing and the beer selection is enormous. Wish I wasn’t moving away because this place alone is reason enough to stay in the jacksonville area.

This place has well deserved praise. Huge tap list with lots of specials and one-off type beers. All up to date on the chalkboard. Huge bottle list arranged by style seemed like it was kept up to date as well. Food was interesting fare but we just snacked on a couple appetizers. Nice but small sidewalk patio and excellent table service for a bar like this.
Ok, so it’s not every day I come across a bar that I wish I could go to everyday, but Kickbacks definitely is! I should preface this review by saying that I beermailed Steve ahead of time and told him I was stopping by from Minneapolis. He answered my email and told me to meet him there when I got in town, I mean, what bar owner wants to meet fellow beer fanatics?! The answer = great restaurant/bar owners.
The atmosphere is great, you walk in to a full faced view of 60 something beers on tap, ranging from the typical BMC to the deep end of the pool IPA’s and RIS’s. The people were extremely friendly and helpful. Steve even took me on a tour of the entire bar and the keg "cellar". The selection of beers was great! Steve’s attitude is to have a few BMC but then have a great choice of gateway beers for people to expand their beer horizons if they choose. The menu was robust and even included Hamburger Helper if you want to go old school, totally awesome.
Again, there are very few bars I go out of my way to go to but Kickbacks is definitely one of them. Really wish this was a bar I had back in MN.
