Best beer bar in Jax. Awesome tap and bottle lineup. Beers you wonít find anywhere else in the city. Food is excellent for a beer bar, best fish and chips Iíve had this side of the Atlantic Ocean. I went early on a Tuesday afternoon so the crowd wasnít there yet and the service was decent. Later in the evening and especially on the weekends its a mob scene and the service gets spotty, and parking is difficult.
Not the best area in Jacksonville bot not scary. tap selection AWESOME! Bottle selection AWESOME! seriously has to be the best in Florida. If there is somewhere better please tell me. service is usually really good. most waiters and bartenders are great. even the owner if you get the chance to meet him is really nice. only gripe food can range from brilliant to blah so be careful and ask your waiter, but if you are in jville go visit.
A little cramped and dingy inside, but so much beer on tap who cares. And the food is pretty solid as well. All kinds of awesome rotating stuff and hard to find beers, at reasonable sampling prices as well.
A-First thing you notice walking in is the couple hundred tap handles hanging from the ceiling and the really cool beer related decor. A bunch of beer signs and hundreds of bottles decorate the wall. I went here four nights and saw a stellar variety of different people.
S- I had 4 different servers over the few days that I was there and all of them were really up to snuff. They were knowledgeable about the beers and the menu and all their recommendations were dead on.
Sel- A huge board on the wall was the tap list of 84. Everything from local stuff from Intuition and Bold City and then pretty much stuff from every brewery available in Florida. CCB was on tap as well as many Sweetwater and terrapin brews plus stuff from Southern Tier and a bunch of belgians....I mean I can do this all day. The bottle selection BINDER was about 60 pages and was arranged by style. At the back there was a specific vintage selection that I ordered a few things off of. I also had a few beers that were extremely rare and had never heard of or seen before. I enjoyed and 08 Insanity that was STELLAR!
F- I wish that I had more time to eat there but I had just about every appetizer they had on the menu and I also had a grilled chicken ceaser salad the last night I was there. All the food was amazing and the menu was really extensive for the size of the place. The food prices were really low for the quality of food and portion size.
V- My beers were all very well priced and the bottles were priced very low for a normal establishment. Only maybe a 1 or 2 dollar markup on large format bottles. Pints were priced lower than most beer places in Florida.
All together if youíre going to be within a 100 mile radius of this place seek it out.
This is the place to go in Jacksonville if you want good beer and good food. A huge tap list plus a large and ever-changing bottle selection. The staff is typically knows a good amount about the beers on tap and almost every time Iíve been there the owner has come over to give more info about what is available. There are usually a lot of local (i.e., Florida) beers available like Cigar City, Bold City, and Intuition. The food is great too. It is way too easy to spend all day here. And, if you need some food to nurse a hangover, the breakfasts are huge and very tasty. Bold City and Intuition breweries are just down the street too.
Awesome local bar and restaurant with a great selection of beers both on tap and bottled. Steve has done a great job of running this place and the intended restaurant expansion should be good addition. Thanks for the beer tasting!!!
Visited during RBWG JAX. Great atmosphere, lots of good to world class beers on tap, spot on service. The food I had, their chicken wings were really tasty. I understand they had some special beers on for RBWG, but Iím an convinced they have a great selection normally. I was surprised Jacksonville had a beer spot this impressive. Definitely worth a visit or two.
I am writing an updated review since Goozlepipe & Guttzworks recently opened.
First I would like to say something about the subpar reviews.
It seems some people went during the remodel when the bar dropped from 84 taps to around 20, and the size of the kitchen was greatly reduced. I do not think it is truly fair to judge the place based on this, sort of like rating an infected beer that the brewer has said was a mistake.
The new place, should it be 2 places? They are connected and have the same menu and beers, but are completely different styles. One is a very beer centric bar with TVs, giving it beer and sports bar feel. The other, Goozlepipe is like nothing I have ever seen.
Goozlepipe has a great bar to sit at and just look around. It is a steampunk themed bar and every detail has been considered, from the over 1 million pennys on the wall, to the 99 bottles of beer on the wall (only SA Utopias), to the beautiful and giant fan, the copper tables, the steampunk paraphernalia, the windows/paintings... The place is just stunning, you could spend hours just looking around.
- Ambiance is out of this world!
- Service, there were slow times in the past, with the larger staff and larger kitchen I feel these days are gone. I went 4 times while in jax over the holidays and food and beer came quickly. The bartenders had some great recs too.
Selection 140? 150 taps? yes they have 3 or 4 bmc beers, but the other 140+ is a beautiful mix of wild ales, ipas, stouts, lagers....
For those that had a bad experience during the remodel I implore you to try the new place it is gorgeous, has good food, an expanded and better menu now, and a top notch tap selection. Truly not to be missed
Visited Kickbacks for the first time on Saturday. I read about it in Draft Magazine as one of the top 100 in the nation. It truly deserves that designation. The steampunk-esque atmosphere is off the charts. Everywhere you look in the place is just cool as hell. We had great service from Erica when we visited and one of the owners (Steve) was extremely accommodating - you can tell that everyone there is just into it. The selection covered the major styles and, if youíre slightly spoiled like I am, youíll still find something good on the menu. Food and value were very good. Overall, this is the hippest, coolest craft beer establishment Iíve been to. Very impressed!
