On a Wed evening the place is packed and loud. However I managed to find a seat by the bar. 12 beers on tap. Flight of any number of beers available. The service was a bit inattentive but the place was full and I wasn’t the most interesting guest. Pretty nice beers all the five I had.
Tried the Elevated IPA by mail back in early 2012 after it won best IPA at the GABF in 2011. Hadn’t had it since. So I was in Vegas with a free weekend (and don’t gamble...lol!) and ended up doing a 16 hour roundtrip to Albuquerque and back over a 2 day weekend. To my way of thinking it was worth the drive...although most would consider that excessive (got to see a few sights along the way like Meteor Crater). Well the place is great inside...and out on the patio too. There was a food truck when I visited...but otherwise no food...and great music playing. I thought the staff was really great...both service and personality...but it’s about the beer here...great beer in fact. There may not be a lot of craftbeer...great or otherwise in New Mexico...but La Cumbre holds its own against a lot of larger and more well known US craft breweries. If you can visit here...do so...if you can get their beer elsewhere (CO & AZ I think)...do so. La Cumbre is definitely a destination brewery...in a fun city with a few other good breweries to include on your tour (like Marble).
La Cumbre has a great vibe and appears to be a favorite of locals working in the area. The atmosphere is relaxed and the outdoor seating is excellent. The IPA was solid, but I was really impressed by the stout. I hadn’t even gotten the glass to my mouth and the distinct aroma of espresso was already planting itself on my palate. A big shout out to My Sweet Basil food truck. The turkey press and house chips were crazy good.
Swung through on the way to a wedding. This brewery does IPAs right. I mean every IPA available here was awesome. Big, bold, hoppy. The brewery itself is very nice, easy to access. Parking is limited in this industrial area. Price is right. Pretty much a perfect place in my book.
One of the most chill brewery taproom/bar places imaginable. That ABQ has this place and Marble makes it one of America’s top beer destinations on the strength of just two great breweries. Comfy outdoor seating, comfier indoor seating, smart barkeeps, lots of beer chatter from a well-informed customer base. Can’t wait to go back.
A rather nondescript taproom in an industrial area, but the beers are worth coming out for. I sat at the bar and worked my way through a tastier tray. Project Dank was my favorite of the bunch and I was tempted to buy a couple bottles to go, but my suitcase just didn’t have the room. Service was friendly and prices were good. This was my favorite NM beer destination and it was their great hoppy beers that put them on top for me.
