Stopped in here on a recent business trip to Bakersfield. Sat at the bar and got to chatting with Rowan, one of the assistant brewers. He suggested a Centennial and man, what a suggestion, great beer. Had the fish tacos too which were very tasty. The other beers were hit or miss, but Rowan was free with the tastes of each of them, so that was really nice. Tried their Centennial, the wheat, and a seasonal brown ale. Also had a Kern river Double IPA on a guest tap. In addition they had brewing supplies on site and I picked up a can of fantastic coffee. Well worth the side trip if you’re anywhere near Bakersfield.
I’ve been here plenty of times for brews and food but also to pick up home brewing supplies. Darren and Jeff are great guys, they know there stuff but also the usual bar keeps know what they are doing as well. Food is decent but not really out of the realm of normal pub fare. There are arcades to keep the kids attention while one enjoys. TV so you can keep up on the scores. Brew is a standard 6 but seasonals are usually available some are better than others. Print yourself a map don’t ask for directions.

A real fun place to grab some brews and a burger. The Centennial and the porter are must tries. They almost always have Just Outstanding IPA on tap here to.
I travel 36 miles one way at least 3 times a month to have my Pig filled and to drink in the relaxing atmosphere of Lengthwise, from the owners to the bartenders to the people who prepare and bring you your food they treat you like your part of the family. The Cent is my favorite.
(Visited 06/2006): Lengthwise Brewing is located on the outskirts of Bakersfield about 20 minutes from the airport. It is immediately off Ashe Rd on Schirra. They have a decent-sized parking lot.
The building looks like a warehouse, and they have stacks of kegs as pillars in the entrance. Inside it is very open, with a pretty good collection of breweriana. The bar is in the middle of it all, and they have a banquet room in the back where you can walk right by much of their brewing equipment which is very cool.
The beer selection here is pretty good. They have 6 Lengthwise beers, plus about 3 import draughts from Bud Light to Arrogant Bastard. I did not see what bottled beers were available, if any. The Lengthwise beers run the gamut from Golden Lager to Porter, and all of them were above average. They offer all of their available beers in a sampler.
Service here is pretty good, and they were more busy than expected for a late lunch crowd. Orders were placed at the bar and the food is brought out to the table.
As for the food, they have typical pub grub (sandwiches, appetizers, fish & chips, salads) and it was very tasty.
All in all I was pleasantly surprised to find a brewpub in Bakersfield and will definitely make it a point to visit when I am there. Some of their beers even make it up the hill to Tehachapi.
My favorite place in B-town. The chili is amazing and goes great with several Cenntenials! Love the stage behind the bar and laid back atmosphere. Two things they have that are fantastic: the Star Wars arcade game and that deep fried twinky!!!!!
