A nice semi underground restaurant with stone walls and wood galore. Would have been great, but tack beer decor is everywhere. Service is good and selection of their beer is plentiful. Unfortunately beer is pretty bland. Food is nice though. Not worth a specific stop, bud not bad if you are around.
A restaurant with about eight taps, including a seasonal. They brew their own, which are on balance, of water and concentrate malt quality. you can eat a regular meal, check your email here, and have what they serve. The Ale was the most drinkable. Good service and surprisingly packed in the cellar. You can also get beer outside in the beer garden. The cafe does not serve alcohol. If you are so inclined, you can get some of these in bottled form next door.
Been here a bunch of times, the last visit we ate on the Barley Works patio, which was nice but overly sunny - could use some more umbrellas. Wings and panzerottis were delicious. Beer ranges from the bland to the quite nice. Service was friendly and appropriate. Worth a stop if you are in town. Samplers are only available downstairs.
Popped in to the Huether Hotel while my inlaws were in town recently for a few drinks and some lunch. The place is a nice cozy basement pub. Low light and lots of brick with a very friendly server. I started with a sampler and I quite enjoyed all of the beers in it - considering the fairly low ratings for the products, I was quite surprised by the quality. The lager was fresh and balanced and the bitter had a solid balance of malt and earthy/spicy hops. Our lunch was also pretty good - massive portions for the price (lunch could easily have been two meals). I’m not sure if there were quality problems before, but of the five beers I tried, four were absolutely solid for the style. No complaints here.
Visited on a busy and sunny summer’s weekend evening, there was enough seating and beer available to quench our interests. The sunny porch upstairs at the Barley Works and cool stone-walled Lion Restaurant in the basement were packed with hungry locals comfortably enjoying themselves. We ate upstairs (yummy grilled chicken pannini and pizza and panzorottos) and enjoyed the English Ale and featured Spiced Wheat with dinner, but only the basement gave samplers of their brews, which were fresh (but quite similar to each other). Service was commendable considering the time of day, season and fair available. Will have to return to explore more of their interesting food and beer choices.

A very comfortable place, i felt right at home.Decently priced , both food and beer. Beer was drinkable, but nothing special.
Large patio is nice in the summer. The historic building is nice, and their in-house beers are quite cheap, and not bad. The English Ale is the best I’ve tried there. Food is decent, but the real value lies in the beer.
this place offer some of the best fresh lagers ive ever had. the english ale is also quite nice. the bar upstairs is the place to go for very reasonable pint prices and pub food, while the pub downstair has more of a steakhouse feel to it. ive never had bad service but ive never really been blown away either. the downstairs pub also offers samples of the beers brewed on site. this is a regular stop for me on my way home from rounds of golf in the waterloo area. check it out.
A unique concept for this building. There’s the restaurant, a cafe, an on site brew your own, (both beer and wine), a bar with a huge patio, a billiards room.....shall I go on? I ate and drank in the restaurant which is actually in the old brewery. Nice ambiance supplied by the old brick and old brewery collectors items displayed everywhere. Beer was fresh and tasty. Food was simple and well prepared. Service efficient, but it did get a little slow towards the end of our visit, but that’s only a minor complaint.Worth a stop if you’re in the area. As an aside to this, you can go the the Crown Brewery retail shop in the same building, and they sell completely different beers than the bar or restaurant.
