The opposite of a tourist-trap in Malá Straná, just a few steps from the Charles Bridge!? Hard to believe, but true. An always well-kept Urquell and a good selection of real well-prepared Bohemian meals make this place very attractive. Absolutely recommended!
In a quiet(ish) enclave after the hubbub of the Charles Bridge, this is a bustling warren of small rooms making up an old style, no frills restaurant and pub with just two beers on tap - Pilsner Urquell served direct from a huge tank under the bar and Kozel Cerny (unfiltered). Both were very fresh.
The food, served on large plates, looked hearty and the place was buzzing with locals at lunchtime. At least I thought they were all locals until the waitress spoke in English to the family sitting at the next table. They’d been quite silent as they tucked into their food and drank their beer with chasers but they obviously didn’t speak Czech and the staff recognised them as foreigners. On reflection, I think they may have been Russian tourists.

Excellent tank Urquell location. Simple bricks and wood layout, with a really cool glass bar revealing the tank. Quick and efficient service. A rather local (pun unintended) feel to the place, despite a location in the middle of tourist hell. The Lokal pubs probably serve the best Urquell in Prague these days. Great place to sit down and have a few.

50 or so meters from the tourist hell thats Karlov bridge. Nice and cozy classic Czech bar. Enjoy your tank Pilsner Urquell inside, in the small garden or outside at the small tables along the small alley infront the bar. Super fresh, cheap prices.
(Visited July 2013) Nice and friendly Urquell beer hall and restaurant just a block away from the Charles Bridge, western shore. Seems to be quite modern, but interior is mainly white stone walls and brown wood, making it feel like a traditional beer hall. Quite cosy. Service was swift and friendly. Beer selection is just Pilsner Urquell from tank, fresh and tasty. But nothing else. Didn’t try the food. No ticks available, but it’s handy for a refreshing pilsner after or before struggling your way over the overcrowded bridge.
