I was vry pleasantly surprised by this place. I sat down at the atmospheric but small downstairs bar, with a few of the copper jacketed kettles. But the bar lady directed me upstairs where the taplist is bigger and where they had special Shelton Brothers beers on. So upstairs there are copper jacketed fermenters, and you walk through the barrel room to the L shaped bar in back, with some bar tables as well. Ignore the chalkboard list, the printed list is accurate. Nearly a dozen of their beers on, tasty enough with some very solid ones. Flights of four available. And then a dozen more guest taps. Great service, tasty and piping hot food. What’s not to like!

In the door around 1PM on a Thursday in mid August 2017, straight off the MARTA from the airport. Cool fairly open interior downstairs, upstairs (which is where the restrooms are) looks rather nice as well. Six of their own beers on when I went, and that seems to be the standard, with a seventh tap offering a cider. Flight of all six at 5oz each is available.
The room smells of barbecue and slow burning wood.
Food menu is solid but slightly pricey for what I recall of Atlanta on my last trip, but that was a couple years ago, and this is right in the middle of the city, so that could be a part of it.
Seems to be a well loved place, as there’s quite the good crowd going around lunch time.
Had a great time here, worth a visit.
Didn’t get a chance on the first visit to get to the upstairs which has an expanded list of 14 of their own, with a bunch of more interesting looking things. Definitely a reason to get back.
Edit: Came back the following day (Friday) when the upstairs bar opened at noon and went through another 10 of their beers, with the bulk being sours (might have been busting out a more diverse set of things for the Shelton Festival being in town), and a few barrel aged imperial stouts. Quite worth going upstairs.
Popular twin-floored brick brewpub at the top end of Peachtree Street in the city centre, just where the road slightly changes direction. There’s two bars here on either level, but the main action seems to take place downstairs with its bar area against the right hand side. There’s plenty of their ales available, best tried through their six-flight option if you want to give as many a go as possible. It’s a lovely place with a balcony at the rear of its top floor.
Went here on consecutive early-week nights and it was packed both times, but the staff handled the onslaught well. Pleasant refurbished two-story brick and wood interior has a nice ambiance but got a bit noisy for my old ears. 6 home team drafts at a time plus about 50 bottles that are well-selected crafts with an emphasis on Georgia brews. I had the six-flight and then some selected pints and all of them were good to excellent. Wood-fired grill made a fabulous steak one night and a good pizza the next. Value is great for the quality of the offerings, especially in a downtown location. They are currently expanding out the back to incorporate a biergarten in the near future.
Downtown Atlanta is a wasteland for food and beer - which makes no sense since the city itself has so many great food and beer places. Max Lager’s is a fairly typical brewpub with typical brewpub fare. Beers were ok. Not bad. But this is the best you’ll do downtown. And even on a Wednesday night, it was packed.
More a restaurant that brews beer than a quality brewpub. Six beers on tap, generally of middling quality. Good food though. Not cheap, and the table service, while adequate, was not knowledgeable about their beers.
A lot of hate for this place, and I can’t figure out why. Really neat building with a cool upstairs area. Service was nice. Got a sampler and most of the beers were perfectly acceptable. I didn’t eat, but others said the food was decent enough. If you’re in this part of town, I’m not sure there’s a better place to walk to. Definitely worth checking out, and better than the number rating I’ve given seems to imply.
Visited just after dinner on a Tuesday. Easy enough to find in central Atlanta, though parking was a bit of a challenge to find. I ended up in the pay lot behind the building. The restaurant and brewery are in a nicely renovated old brick building, with the copper brewery front and center as you enter. Bigger bar in front, with restaurant tables throughout the main floor. Upstairs is another bar, which was being used for a function. There is a small patio out back. 6 Max beers on, along with a decent size and quality bottle list. The crowd was Mostly out of towners and the service was efficient and friendly. The beer I had was solid, and I enjoyed my visit.
