This place is a local gem. Iím actually a little embarrassed how long it took me to initially go. The idea of an antique/beer place seemed odd and it doesnít look like much from the outside. But Iíve been back several times since and will continue to go. Inside thereís stuff all over the place but thatís part of the charm. There are couches, tables/chairs, two small bars, so pick your spot. Or just stand and mingle around. The owner is very friendly and passionate about beer. On at least a couple of occasions heís given me a free sample of something just because he wanted me to try it. And Iím by no means a regular. He doesnít have tons of taps but what he does get is high quality. Iíve been really impressed at some of the stuff he gets. Thereís a cooler with bottles and a shelf with bottles kept warm you can purchase to go. Prices are very good on the draft stuff. Donít judge it by itís cover; give this place a shot if you havenít already.
Overall a pretty good place way out in Orlando visited in late December 2014. It is definitely its own place with its own way of viewing the craft beer world. Nice tap list and great bottle selection. A place that will stand the test of time just based on location and its atmosphere. Look forward to going back again next time in the Orlando area. A must visit for craft beer in the Orlando area.
What a find! This place puts Mount Dora on the craft beer map. Great selection of beers, 22 tap and what seems like and endless selection of bottles and cans.
Itís like the compact non conforming version of World Of Beer.
The place is super cool with unique character that really makes it shine.
On any given day you can walk in an find a 4yr barrel aged imperial stout on draft, the next day it could be fresh 120 minute or even a rare nitro offering from a local Florida brewery.
Check it out! you will not be disappointing.
I was shocked when I found myself in Tavares, FL for the night and this "famous" beer bar was just a few minutes down the road. I had to check it out after all the controversy.
Itís a pretty cool place with great beer, all things considered. It seems to be sort of a converted house/apartment or something, so thereís separate areas and taps spread all over with some antiques and such sitting around. The bartenders and clientele throw a strong hipster vibe, but it is what it is - everyone was super nice.
The bartenders were prompt, friendly, and knowledgable. I was at a table by myself and a manager stopped and chatted with me about beer and whatnot. Very nice guy.
Not a ton of taps but everything they had was good stuff and lots of FL beers.
Is this a world class amazeballs place? Probably not, but itís still pretty great. I will absolutely visit every time Iím visiting friends in the Tavares area. The only thing Iíd change is to have the taplist more visible somewhere instead of small pieces of paper taped to the wall. Personally, I like to look at the taplist, look things up, and decide on my own without bartenders asking me what I like, etc. I also understand that Iím not a "normal" customer, though. Iíll be back! Cheers!
I wasnít expecting much, but my expectations were blown away. Its a bit off the beaten path but worth the trek. This is a small town hang out, with character coming out the walls. Its worth stopping by to just see the antiques and people watch. Add in a strong draft list, low prices, friendly service, and its a great experience. Iíll be back.
Visited here a few months back...really enjoyed the experience. This is a very unique and ecclectic craft beer bar. More like an antique and craft beer memorabilia store than a bar. The taps are spread around the establishment along with the bottles and kegs. The beer is very good though...nice and varied selection. Best of all was hanging out and talking to Daneaux...nice guy...very interesting conversationalist...with an obvious passion for craft beer. If in the area stop by for a visit. (Note...Iím very stingy with 100 ratings...I think a place needs to earn that over an extended period of many years and many reviews...for me a 92 rating is very high for an establishment of this type).
Mermaid Juice is a little hidden gem about a half hour northwest of Orlando. Dan, the owner, is very friendly and instantly makes you feel at home. I was very impressed with his draft and bottle selection, stuff you canít find anywhere else, and the prices were very reasonable. He gave us generous portions to taste and sample beers that we were interested in. I will definitely be a regular here and highly recommend visiting.
Fun little pub/antique store in a small Flordia town. Owner is a real character and great guy to talk to. Beer is spread out amongst the store and it is worth it to check out the more rarer offerings. Besides getting some great beers the last time I visited, I also got a great set of Ping irons, so win/win.
