Convenient parking through the alley right next to the place. Didn’t eat, but had a quick drink on a Wednesday afternoon. Feels a bit dingy, wouldn’t want to navigate down those stairs after a long night of drinking. Alright choice of beers on tap and on bottles. Waitress indeed had to check with bartender for any questions. Pleasant, but not great.
Parking right beside the place in the back, parking is like two bucks. Right on the corner, on the second floor. Went for lunch. Through the door up a dark stair case. The place has old hardwoods and bunch of different levels (different level for the bar, bathroom, stairs, and eating area) watch your step. Nicely lite, sky light, and big widows looking at the balcony. Small long balcony. Interesting shelf with board games. I had the Cubano and was told it was a big sandwich (needed more meat), it is actually light faire. Prices a little high for the food, but the beer prices are reasonable. I liked it pretty well, but the wife was not a fan, so we
Michael’s is located on campus in Charlottesville just upstairs from a local greasy spoon. The bar is small though there is table seating. It is a fairly intimate place with somewhat dim lighting. The bartender was chatty while we worked on some of the local beers on tap. I did not order food on this visit, nor did I have a chance to look over the menu.

At first we walked into the downstairs portion by mistake, and were shocked to find no beer. The real entrance is just to the left and set back a ways. The bar itself is tiny, maybe half a dozen seats, but then there are lots of tables. Service was quick and friendly, and the server had some good recommendations, including on the bottle list. Selection was not extensive, but we did find a few things we hadn’t had before. Kitchen was closed when we got there.
Nice little place. Service was pretty good. They lose point for knowledge- the server didn’t know much but she asked the bartender and owner (manager? not sure) about one of the beers that was just labeled Double IPA and there are three different Double IPAs by that brewer on here-- alas, no one could figure out which beer it actually was. At least they tried (they even tried looking it up on line) and they also turned the a/c down when we just casually mentioned it was cold. The food was good- and "local", except for the fries which were nothing special and a tiny portion for $1.50 extra (yes it is an add-on even if you are ordering a hamburger- cheese was an add-on as well) So, I’d say their pricing is high. Decent selection if not a huge selection.
I hate second floor restaurants. It doesn’t mix very well with the beer. They have 12-14 taps of craft with nothing too unusual. Their bottle selection was much more extensive. The meal we ate was decent but nothing spectacular. It does put you off a bit from their food when you see the bartender and a couple of the patrons eating take out from another restaurant. The service was weird. The bartender seemed incredibly impatient for our order and rushed our beer orders. The whole vibe, even on a sparsely populated afternoon day, was off. I think all things being equal I’d rather hang out at the Mellow Mushroom or Beer Run.
Excellent food, decent beer selection and a good vibe, a nice place to go, even if it is in student central. Only one gripe and that is that "shepherd’s pie" is made with lamb, not beef - there is a hint in the name.
I FINALLY got around to this place this afternoon, despite living here years and knowing people who have worked here in the past. I like the ambience. Upstairs above another restaurant in the University area, there is lots of wood inside and a nice, albeit very small, balcony. It helped that I went on a perfect spring day, but the ambience was very nice, though the restrooms provide about as much maneuverability as an airplane restroom. The food is expensive and slightly above average. The beer list is pretty good, with lots of American, Belgian and a few German selections. Solid selection but not anything terribly rare. I had a pint of a local beer that I have all the time and the hops definitely had faded quite a bit. Parking is easy if you don’t mind paying a few bucks (they don’t validate). If you do mind paying, well, have an extra beer cause you’re gonna be walking. Overall a decent stop but a bit overpriced and I don’t trust the tap lines 100%.
Nice place on The Corner by UVA. Nice staff. Great food, much nicer than bar food, and appropriately priced. Pretty nice beer selection, and an overall nice place to have a good beer with a few friends.
Also was very accommodating to a 8+ person group.
