Based on the time of day and the need to get food I stopped in en route to the hotel to see what Poughkeepsie's brewing scene had to offer. The outside screams high end gastropub and the interior follows suit. Bustling on a Sunday evening, the service was quick despite not having reservations.

Food is upscale and runs in the ballpark of $20+ per entree. The beers follow suit with a price tag a dollar or two above what you'd see at most other brewpubs. Whether this is a local thing or a regional cost difference I'm not sure. What I do know is that a flight of six was only nominally cheaper than ordering six half pints. That said choosing your six could be tough - the tap list balanced about a dozen choices covering most styles. None were exceptional though only one left me feeling completely indifferent.

If you are passing through and want a nicer experience than your average sandwich and fries stop by. As long as you prepare for the sticker shock it merits at least a drop in to try a few local drafts.

The other of the two brewpub style places I can walk to in about 20 minutes or so from my house, so like Blue Collar, I still haven’t gotten around to rating it, in spite of going there fairly regularly. This place is certainly more polished, and comes across more as a restaurant that makes their own beer than a brewery that has some food. This is evident in the food menus, the social media that often is pushing food and wines instead of their beers. The beers are pretty solid though, and they’ve now expanded to a separate off site facility to keep up with the beer demand, while leaving the in house system to do more experimental things. Good variety of styles on tap, and all generally done well. Food is good, if not a bit pricey. Often a crowd here, and they’re not always likely to be beer people. Still worth a stop if you’re in Poughkeepsie.

Came in with family for lunch after some Apple and pumpkin picking. Very classy interior big space and nicely done. Food is fantastic they house make all their own sausages which are delightful. Quite a large selection of their own beers on which are damn tasty. Prices touch high especially for this neighborhood but quality is there. If you find yourself in unfortunate situation of being in Poughkeepsie you should come here for sure.

Came by for a lunch on a Saturday. Food was pretty tasty, think of it as slightly more interesting and tastier than average bar food. Nice looking place, big, lots of seating. Service was pretty good as well. Had about 10 of their own beers on, which ranged from mediocre all the way through pretty good. Felt like they did a better job with the non-hoppy styles (Cucumber Cream, Citra Kettle Sour, Kolsch, etc.) than the hoppy ones (IPAs and APAs). Worthy stop for sure, and there are a bunch of others you can visit within 15-20 minutes time permitting, which is great.

This plce looks like the beginning of the regentrifciation of downtown Poughkeepsie. Lots of brick in the interior and low ceilings and candles gives this place an intimate vibe. Of course intimate can can also mean small so get their early because it was fairly crowded when I arrived. They had 6 of their own on tap with the Scotch ale and the stout the clear winners as well as gastropub type menu. The food wasn’t cheap but it was certainly tasty and I also enjoyed the hot dog with the pretzel bun. (And by pretzel bun I mean they made a bun out of a pretzel.) If I lived in the area I would also stop by as well.

I stopped here this past Sunday after visiting the Tuthilltown Distillery. It was a wise choice. This brewpub is recently opened and the building and space are really well done. The decor is simply beautiful...all stone...brick...wood beams...nice lighting...and a gorgeous wraparound bar. There were about 6 beers plus a couple of guest taps (Peekskill & Rushing Duck). I had a couple of flights and tried all of them. I really enjoyed the Mill House beers. They are doing quite well with them for a recent startup. Althtough there is still room for improvement or growth...again...very nice initial effort! I can’t finish the review without mentioning the food though...it was extremely good. They make their own sausages...4 or 5 different kinds...plus a fantastic house made hot dog which I had...wood fired pizzas too. I definitely recommend a visit here. If I lived closer I’d frequent this place often.
