So, this review is a mix from my first visit about four years ago and the more recent one a day before Cantillon Quintessence 2018. The first visit was lovely, good service, a little bit of a run-down bar feeling, very good selection of lambic and other beers. We didn't interact with many locals as Belgium was playing the USA in soccer and people were animated... This past visit I was visiting with a few people for the Cantillon bottle release, which just completely went down the drain. We were there a couple of minutes before the announced opening and release time of 16:00, at which time the bar was already packed and many of the bottles were already sold out. To add insult to injury, we were sold the wrong bottle at a huge markup. All in all a super poor experience despite the good information policy online before the event. Don't know what to think of this place now, will probably give it another chance next time I'm in Brussels but it might be the last one...
I have been coming to this place for many years absolutely adoring this place but the recent Cantillon & Hill Farmstead event left a very sour taste in my mouth and took down this place in my opinion. A large Cantillon bottle list was advertised online and the opening hour was stated as being 16.00. However when we arrived ten minutes before 16.00 we found out that the all the specials we were excited about had been sold out. Apparently they had opened hour earlies, selling bottles with no price stated for whatever people were willing to pay. There was a huge line for everything and people were told to wait outside to be never served again in multiple cases with many locals leaving. I find it weird that Cantillon & this place have criticized people for selling bottles online but have no issue pricing the hell out of bottles at their event for whoever will bid highest and encouraging people to show up early etc. This being bad after one of us managed to stand long enough in line he ordered a Lambiek Armagnac to only receive 50N4E for 50 euro. Not only not the beer that he didn’t ask but also at a far higher price than what the menu asked. Good to take money from tourists but bad for people actually expecting beers to be available at opening time. The beers were not there, we were massively overcharged for a wrong beer etc. If this is the future, they can have fun fleecing money from Americans and taking the De Heeren van Liedekercke route. I am sure that many people will be happy with the new course.
Bel locale, selezione buona.
incredibilmente caro come il fratello in centro

We (me, Dad, Barry and Scott) visited here Friday 9th March 2018 This was my first visit here since Dec' 2011(see previous review below. We sat downstairs on this occasion, I quite liked the cellar feel, we were the only ones down here,
it was rammed upstairs. Beer choices was great and it was nice to see some new local beers on offer from L'ermitage. I like this area and I like this pub and along with Beerstorming, Dynamo and others in the neighbourhood its worth the hike out of town to get here. Score 80
We (me and Loz) visited here Saturday 17th December 2011 we had to wander the neighbourhood for a couple of hours as we had failed to take note of the 16:00 hours opening time. The beer list is very impressive and easily the best that I encountered on this visit, with many impressive rarities for those keen to seek out something a little different. Pricewise it was possibly a little on the steeper side, however if you choose something on tap then there were certainly a decent and interesting selection at very reasonable prices.
The female member of bar staff was very knowledgeable, helpful and worked the bar really well, offering sound advice. We walked there and back and we were based in Molenbeek but it was a pleasant walk and the pub is an interesting part of town away from the tourist tat which drags some of the other Brussels establishments down a little. I really liked this bar, however maybe not quite as much as I was hoping. I suppose one fault that I found was that much like many of the other great beer cafes of the world its one failing is that for atmosphere and all round pub banter it just doesn’t work so well, if it could condense the atmosphere and warmth of the three alleway pubs in the centre of town then it would be a world beater on every count, sadly it just fails on the atmosphere rating.
