I caught Monks at the perfect a time, a couple days after a sour event and a Societe event. Needless to say, the taps were extremely strong. I would need to visit during a non sf beer week to see how it is. Either way, service was fast, friendly and knowledgable. Seating is a bit of challenge int the cramped lay out. I didn’t eat but the food looked like generic pub fare. I had a blast and would be back, especially for their vintage bottle list.
Great beer selection coming off of a sour beer festival. Prices were pretty high and service was a little snobby. We rolled in with a group of 8 people at 3 pm on a Saturday excited to enjoy the establishment. The place was less than half full with many open tables and we were told, in a snobby manor, we couldn’t sit down and have a beer inside except for squeezing in at the bar (which isn’t doable with a large group) because we weren’t planning on ordering entrees. They said they might be able to fit us in outside because their food policy was a little more relaxed out there but emphasized that we really should order a good deal of food because they weren’t just a bar, they were also a restaurant. At this point, we almost left but decided to stay for a quick ($80) round of beers and a couple appetizers. I was planning on ordering more but didn’t want to be made to feel like a dick for how much/little we wanted. When we left the place was still half empty. Can’t say that I will ever go back despite the amazing selection. I’d rather give my money to an establishment who treats me well, especially at the price premium. Maybe the staff was just having an off day and didn’t communicate the policy well? I hope so.
Super small, very quaint spot with a decent tap list and a solid bottle selection as well. Burger was a little above average. Service was much to be desired. Waitress was a bit smug. Just didn’t see what everyone else does in this place.
Visited the 7th February 2015 for the United Sour of America - The place is easy to access between the metro and the bart (16th Mission). Very smart place, great ambiance and clean. The selection is really amazing you can find all you want from the best breweries of the world, but take care to check the price before. Some beers are too expensive. The service is professional, food is available but I didn’t try it. A good place where the beers are at the best.
Visited with Linh. $5 uber from Toronado. Dark mahogany wood bar with nice new age feel. Small kitchen behind additional seating. Clean bathroom. The place really maximizes the space potential. Friendly staff. Food tbd. Really nice draft list - when we visited included: Lost abbey BB Angel Share, Lagunitas, prairie, and the other standard California offerings. Really solid place.
