Very nice brewpub in the old town of Stockholm. Very friendly and knowledgeable people behind the bar. Lovely food (try the suckling pig). Huge selection of beers on tap (swedish and foreign) and on bottle. Very nice atmosphere (go down to the cellar). Love this bar.
Dank. Dark. Candle-lit dungeon. The ambiance of this place is incomparable, as is the selection of beers. You dont come here for the food, necessarily, nor is it the cheapest place. But overall, one of Stockholm's finest, to be sure.

This was the last place that we visited in Stockholm during our birthday weekend away and sadly the most disappointing. We came here on Saturday 19th November 2016, we’d tried popping in before but only the top bar was open. Monks is located on Gamla Stan in a large quite grand looking building on the end of the street. It’s on the west side of the island where Munkbron and Lilla Nygatan meet.
On entry head down stairs to the extensive brick vaulted cellars, even in the gloom it looked quite impressive down here with rooms off to the LH side, ahead and RH side, in fact it wasn’t immediately apparent where to go but we could see that the room off to the LH side was hosting a private tutored beer tasting by the looks of things. We headed right and near the end found the bar. Finding seating was a rather different proposition we ended up sat on a table which just had lots and lots of advertising stuff for this place all over it, why they can’t stack that up on one area I don’t know we felt it was a bit strange.
It was difficult to know if the barman was interested with his rather flash shirt undone a few buttons too many and with a couple of hardworking young girls flitting about he only really seemed interested in himself, still we managed to order a beer each and sat at the advertising table to drink it. I have to say we were unimpressed with the place, it didn’t seem welcoming, it seemed false and just interested in parting an individual with their hard earned cash. However visually it looked lovely, the beer choice was good, it was a bit pricey but we just didn’t warm to it at all, in fact we never even finished our drinks, we felt uncomfortable and in we also felt in the way, so headed off. Maybe a visit at a different time of day and we’d have viewed the place quite differently perhaps, but hey-ho you can only go along with the here and now and sadly we didn’t like it.
Extremely well disigned ’interior’ in a cellar. Very classical, naked bricks, yet with a modern touch ( Tv displays about the menu ) selection was Belgian focussed, but not limited towards it. they are very proud to sell all trapists, and give a free westy 12 ( normal price 500 SEK - 50 $ / thats Stockholm for ya ) to anyone who drank all the other trappists here. service was very nice and helpfull. a few of their own beers. Having a menu would have made it so much easier though :( prices are - even for sweden- very high. But as in other places without menu, I have to say I can only go from what I paid, as I’ve simply ain’t seen any other pricings. ( I paid about 8-9 $ for a small pour of their APA )
An interesting place; underground in a cellar and lit mostly be candle. Good selection of their own beers and others.
Not as good as Akkurat or Oliver Twist, but it’s something a little different from them.
A quirky place with a bar and a series of candle lit rooms under brick arches and vaults in the old cellars. Visited a Saturday afternoon and early evening for a few drinks. Impressive bottled selection of De Molen beers on display when entering. Large tap list with Monks own brand and Struise, De Molen and Goose Island as mentioned in the earlier review. Did not try the food, but it looked delicious. Good service from the barman. Well worth a longer visit a less sunny day than this Saturday in June.
In the old town of Stockholm this old basement with raw stone walls and tiled staires. Big selection of their own beers and their partners ( Struisse, De Molen and Goose Island). A bit understaffed in the bar and you may have a long line waiting to order. Food is ok from their nice grill.
