This is a nice beer location just off the main Portland harbor front with a nice selection of beers, and open arms for the brewer’s reception following The Festival.

Visited February 2016 after Maine Brewbus trip. Bus driver gave me good tip to find place so when you see "Thirsty Pig" watch to the narrow alley on the other side of the street. This place is actually quite hard to find. I thought this would have been fancy restaurant but actually it is very cozy basement bar. Tap list was very good and staff knew what they were doing. Had couple of beers and also one phenomenal bottle from Maine Beer Company. They had interesting vintage bottle list but unfortunately I hadnt time for that. Great place.

Put wife and kid to bed in hotel and headed here. So hard to find even with google maps from my direction but that makes it even greater imo. Basement feel cool ceiling huge bottle list but nothing that really grabbed me. Draft list had bunch of beers I wanted unfortunatly 2 were kicked but still amazing place really a beer destination.

One of the more anticipated places on the trip, and it really delivered. We made a couple visits here in our few days in town, in fact.

Nice outdoor patio/beer garden that was really enjoyable on a warm summer evening. Good amount of space inside with some communal and individual party tables. Very cool almost basement vibe with low ceilings and lighting, exposed brick, lots of cool bottles everywhere.

They have a really substantial draft list of things from all over the place and also a good selection of Maine beers. The bottle list here is insane, too. Even just working your way through the Oxbow and Allagash "library" offerings would be a chore, let alone all sorts of interesting/tasty lambics and a wide variety of other things. Bottles are pretty fairly priced for what I saw, though some of the drafts were little expensive maybe.

The servers here were super friendly and accommodating. Happy to make recommendations, suggestions, answer questions, etc. Fun people, all that jazz.

If I lived in the area, I’d spend way too much of my money here.

Another legendary American beer bar. The beer list and crabmeat grilled cheese will alter your world. Be warned. Owned by the Liquid Riot peeps and THEY are the pulse of Portland

Kind of a dungeon cellar vibe, so it plays well at night. Lots of young people hang out there so it can get kind of loud but they have an awesome bottle selection as well as some well-curated taps. Definitely a cool hang on a Saturday night.

Came here on a Tuesday around the dinner hour. Cool vibe, like a stone cellar. Some good stuff on tap including hod Fred Flanders and other sour goodies. I also ate here too which does not seem like the norm, but my charcuterie was excellent. Awesome place.

Went late Wednesday evening. Not that many people but still loud. Really nice selection with local beer. Bit of a cellar feel to the place.

Novare Res should be at the top of any self-respecting beer lover’s tour of Portland. It is hidden away in the centre of Portland off a backstreet from Exchange Street. Out front there is large patio area with plenty of tables. Indoor feels like a Belgian cellar bar - dark & moody. They have some 25 taps on offer as well as a large bottles list (quoted as being over 500). Beer selection is varied, high-quality and interesting. They have a great mix of local and international beers. Lots of obscure sour beers and obtuse adjunct stouts. Couple that with good service and you have yourself a grade A beer joint. A must-visit.
