21/11/14 Can’t say enough good things about this place. Just about the nicest place for a craft that I’ve been in. Superbly nice and knowledgeable service, nice atmosphere, can get crowded in the evenings. Great selection. Just a world-class place and definitely a must if you’re visiting Helsinki.
07/07/12 An out of the way beer place, but probably the best one in Helsinki, maybe whole of Finland. Excellent selection, rotating taps, knowledgeable and friendly bartenders that’ll go out of their way to oblige you, if you just ask them. Will talk shop if not too busy. Value is good for a Helsinki-situated place. Ambiance is a bit lacking though. It’s a bit of a dank area, the place itself is small, filled to the brim and loud. At least on a Friday evening. Probably better during the day.
This is THE place to be in Helsinki for beer enthusiasts. The prices are low enough to make the trip worth your while even if you count the subway tickets on top of your first two beers. The selection is awesome, there’s plenty of taps and the staff know what they’re doing (and selling). The best whiskey bar in the country too if you’re interested in that kind of thing.
You really have to get out of your way to visit this pub as it is quite a metro ride outside of Helsinki city centre (20mins). But it’s well worth the visit. When you get of the metro and walk through the district you pass a brown pub and have to turn left into the alley to reach this place. When you get in it’s alot smaller than you thought it would be. Reminds you abit of the local pub where strangers aren’t welcome but here you are wrong! :-) It might be small but the quality of beers on tap is awesome. I am from Norway and Stavanger and they even had a Lervig on tap I haven’t tasted from the brewery in my home town! Now that tells you something. Anyway alot of finnish craft beers but also some english quality crafts on tap when I visited, danish, norwegian, swedish, dutch. But if you are into single malts and whiskey, this is the place to go, over 500 different kinds and if you are lucky the whiskey expert is working. Anyway there is a small fridge with some very interesting beers in it, when I asked the bartender he didnt have a bottle menu apart from a small seasonal menu but you can have a peek at the fridge as you go for the bathroom. The seating is very limited here like 6 tables and the bar counter but when we visited on a saturday we still got a table, might be cause its along way from the city center so you gotta be a real beer geek to get here :-) Anyway the place is small but the quality of the beers (and the single malts) is more than well worth a visit! Staff is also well educated and know alot about beer and whiskey!
One of my must visit places when visiting Helsinki. Great beer selection, and the beers served in good condition. If you are into sours, this place has a good range of these beers. Staff friendly and helpfull, and know their stuff about beers. If you want a beery experience going to Helsinki, visit this place ;-)
Visit a couple off times, alwas good service and friendly staff. One off the time they had a Germen beer festival on with quit a good selection off rare german brauhauses .. so very good.. Will be back next time ;D
Now, and hear me through, this place looks like a disaster! It is located in n eastern suburb of Helsinki, a fairly long metro ride away, and you get here and you think "what the hell have I let myself into here?" You get to this one storey 1980’s dirtmall with a courtyard, a couple of run down shops, and a bar where the locals look like they’ve given up on pretty much everything, and there it is, Pikkulintu. A fine as they get craftbeer pub with an excellent selection, great statt and people from all over the World showing up. They didn’t have that Cantillon I had a vague hope of tasting of course, but aside from that, I got a much better understanding of craft beer in Finland from this place than any other during my visit to Helsinki. And, as we Norwegians generally don’t know much about our Nordic "cousins" (not really, but what else do I call them? our swedish brothers ex-wife?) to the east, that says a lot about the value of this place. I had a blast and some really good beers.
Well, end of a long day of drinking combined with the awesome selection here, maybe some memory isn’t too clear. Beer selection was awesome, drafts and bottles. Will stop back at the bar on my upcoming trip to Helsinki, hopefully will find my way back to the hotel after.
Ok, it has the feel of a neighborhood pub full of locals. Luckily for them they have a nice beer selection but not world class. Cantillon on tap is cool but I think Mugishutei & Craftheads in Japan have way way more beers or hell tons of places in the US. Prices seemed slightly lower than the in the city center & they had a great variety on tap. Staff were friendly & knowledgeable though I had problems using a non-European credit card so watch out for that. Overall, a good bar but not world class I think. Maybe a bunch of the bottled beer selection was hidden somewhere...
If you can only go to two places in Helsinki make this one of them. Despite a 20 minute subway ride from the city center the trip was validated by a broad selection of beers from around the world. In addition to about 8 local taps there are bottles from Belgium, the United States, and other places.
Prices were in line with everywhere else in Helsinki which is to say don’t expect to find any deals. However if your timing is right you’ll find some great lambics in addition to the Finnish offerings. If that’s not enough the 400+ bottles of scotch will keep you occupied.
One of the best beer places in Europe/World. Great selection of different beers from all over the world. Only downside is that you have to go there separately, its about 10 km from city centre. Totally worth a visit and Pikkulintu also brings beers to country and deliveres them to grocery stores and other beer bars.
Crazy place that’d you’d never think has awesome beer as its located in a run down strip mall. This is a total locals joint and if not for the Cantilon no one would know about. Taking away the Cantillon, there are several excellent beers made just for them and a crazy bottle selection. Its scattered about and hard to find, but there are gems in there. Not worth coming to Helsinki to check this place out, but if you’re there its worth the train ride to take a look.
