This is the go to place in Boone for beer lovers. The staff is friendly and knowledgable. The selection is unbeatable. Always have good year round beers and the hard to find seasonals and limited editions.
I have never stepped foot in their brick and mortar building but on two occasions they have hooked me up via mail, and once for a case of a big bottle, (and one that was very special to them!). Check them out at all costs and cheers to them for their customer service and appreciation to the craft beer world!
This place has a world class selection of beers and extremely knowledgable staff. Chris hooked me up with a couple of whales on my wish list at fair prices. Worth going way out of your way to visit.

Nice store. A little cramped, but for all the right reasons. Amazing selection of imports and microbrews. Some beers thought to have been long gone are here. More english and german imports than I have ever seen elsewhere. German rauchbiers, bottle-conditioned stouts, 12 different rogues, just wonderful. A lot of classics here and pardigms for the styles they represent. Also plenty of warm beer to survive the long drive home. The staff was knowledgable and engaging. Wish I could of singled some stuff out, but I guess that does wreak havoc on stock rotation. The only thing the store needs is a little more space and the 6% cap to be removed. Rerating: After the cap has been lifted. Super selection of what eveyone else doesnít have. All the standards(Chimay, Rogues, Duvel etc.) Huge quantity of Thomas Hardysí 2004, (with no limit on how many you can buy!!!!) 90 minute, Pangea, Olde School, Mocha Java Stout, De Dolle Belgians, and an obscene amount of stuff never seen before. Definantly worth the drive.
I live in Boone and feel extremely fortunate to have Peabodyís in town! They do an excellent job of stocking unique beers on a consistent basis. They also have a nice selection of kegs to choose from with some nice deals to boot when they find them. They throw out some super deals and have wine and beer tastings pretty much every week. If you are in the highcountry and want something to wet your whistle, there is no better place than Peabodyís in western NC! By the way, they now sell Growlers and 22ís of Pisgah Organic!
Emailed Chris, the beer manager, before my visit. That was a great decision.
Drove up from Hickory one night after work because Chris said "you wonít regret making the drive." He was right. Greeted by him at the door and shown around the entire place. He and two other employees talked with me for nearly an hour as I shopped and asked questions about local goods. They knew everything any beer store employees should know about the products theyíre selling.
Service was perfect. Selection was great and thoughtfully curated. Lots of global beers mixed with a great variety of US craft. The atmosphere was really cool, too. Boone, being a mountain and college town, just has a great vibe. Peabodyís fits in perfectly.
One of the most highly recommended stores Iíve visited. Going back this week!

Peabodyís has steadily improved over the years. Everyone that works there is very knowlegeable about beer, and will to talk with you about it. Itís always a pleasant experience to shop there. Until recently, their selection has been limited by state law, not their choice. With the passage of the new law in NC allowing up to 15%, they are aggressively adding new beers weekly. It is one of the best beer stores in NC.
Excellent selection. Fantastic service. I popped in a second time to see if they had any new deliveries since my last visit and they immediately recognized me and showed me everything new that came in. The first day they were equally as intentive, making suggestions and helping me get my purchase to the car. A kick ass beer shop, one of the better ones Iíve been to. A must stop.
Visited: 5/9/11. Spent a day in the mountains with my family and made it a point to stop by the famous Peabodyís. As I walked in, I was promptly greeted by the guy behind the register and asked if I needed any help. Good service already. The beer section is in the back right side of the store, past all the wine. First thing I see is a nice rack of vintage brews. They had a good selection of aged beers at fairly reasonable prices. The beer is organized well, with a nice Belgian section, NC section, European section, and a large section of coolers with chilled singles, bombers, growlers, and sixers. Very extensive selection. Iíd be hard-pressed to not find something Iíd want there. Some of the prices are higher than Iím used to, but some were actually lower. I was approached by the aforementioned employee, and asked again if I needed some help. We chatted beer for a bit. Iím really glad I stopped. Definitely one of the best stores in the state, and by far the best store in the area.
