Pivni is very conveniently located in central York. Itís a pub of two halfs... outside itís very traditional looking, whereas inside itís very modern and contemporary. Owned by the "Tap" family of pubs, however I did find the beer to be most different in terms of selection here. On our second visit they had a Thornbridge Tap-Takeover with plenty of cool stuff on draft (including aged casks). Bottle selection which included a couple of gems is displayed in a cabinet to the right of the bar. They also have a second floor which has regular live music. All-round a rather great pub.

Lovely (very) old timber framed 3 storey pub. The bar bisects the ground floor making for a somewhat constricted area. The upper 2 levels are dedicated table space. The third storey looks over restored but the second storey retains itís olde worlde charm. Service was friendly and attentive. So nice place then? Well the selection was a disappointment. German dullness and a few cask non entities. Bits and bobs, seen before. Things were desperate enough that I resorted to an (over priced) can of Black Sheep session IPA. Maybe I was unlucky but the selection really was a bit of a let down considering this is the second highest rated place in York.

Visiited on a Thursday evening. Busy enough I had to go to the 2nd floor. they did have several things I had not seen anywhere else, so for ticks that is good. Some of the choices were of doubtful quality and I do not mean the condition of the beer but, why they would choose to serve it in the first place because the beer was not very good. Service was very nice and friendly. Not much for ambiance, worn wood and beer advertisements.

Visited with Jon and Gustave. Downstairs is a long narrow bar with settles and stools. Thereís an upstairs too, but we didnít even peek. Very helpful staff were generous with samples. Good range of craft that I hadnít seen elsewhere in the city. Nice stop.

Visited on 25th June 2016. Itís a multi level, black and white, woooden beamed venue in the centre of the city, just off the Shambles Market. I stayed in the downstairs bar area, grabbing a stool at the end of the bar. A good range of beers with a trio of Buxton Belgian offerings and a Logsden Saison which are fairly rare in the UK. Prices were decent, service was really good and staff friendly. Really liked this place and would heartily recommend a visit.

In its own rickety timber building full of historic importance, currently with a Tudor style appearance, this triple floored pub is right next to the enclosed outdoor market area in the heart of the city. Itís a tight affair on the ground floor, with the bar occupying most of the back wall, leaving just a few small tables and seats in front. It packs in a good mix of cask and keg ales though and the selection is decent, and not limited to just local brews. Climb the stairs to either of the next two levels and thereís more space and more tables and chairs than below, situated on even wooden floors covered by Afghan rugs in places. Itís extremely atmospheric if you enjoy old world settings, and itís probably the most medieval of places youíll enter on a pub crawl of York. Itís slightly spoiled by some of the electronic boxes and wires adorning the walls, and the bright juke box mounted on the wall of the middle floor looks completely out of place.

The place looks cool at first sight, but the furniture could be better and when we were there there we a lot of large noisy groups which didnít add to the atmosphere in a good way. The selection is good though: focus on English beers, but also some good Belgian beers, and a lot of different styles. Most beers are pricy though. In short, the selection is worth checking out, but Iíd rather visit another pub.

Merece mucho la pena visitar este pub situado en el centro de York. Para mŪ, uno de los mejores de la ciudad. La ķnica pega es que no sirvan comidas pero la selecciůn de cervezas que rotan son bastante aceptables

Located in the old building in the York city center. Spreads on three floors, weíve stayed on the ground floor which felt cozy and not too big. Good selection, some interesting beers on tap. Decent bottle selection. Worth visiting.

Set in a fantastic location in the middle of York and in a building older than the US constitution. The atmosphere alone is worth the visit. They seemed to have roughly 15 beers on cask/tap and another 50 or so in a bottle list. Almost all of it was local UK breweries, and even had a couple sours on draft when I was there. Bar staff is great and the prices are resonable for the area. They have three levels of seating and it wasnít crowded at all when I was there (around 3pm on a Saturday).

As an American, Iím a sucker for historic and atmospheric venues that enhance the experience of enjoying beers in public. Pivni fits the bill perfectly. Ramshackle and tilting, the building itself is worth a visit. They had a nice, tight selection of beer when I visited.
