We went on a Czech language tour of the brewery and despite not understanding a single word, this was amazing. The Pilsner Urquell Kvasnicový straight from the wooden barrel was worth the price of admission. Would I do this again? Absolutely.
Been on the brewery tour several times over the years and I keep finding myself wanting to go back for more. The tour is available in several languages, I’ve always had the English speaking tour. The tour has changed over the years, latest one I took was early August 2017. If you’ve been on brewery tours, especially in large breweries, before, not too much is new when it comes to the first part of the tour. But, something that is unique here, is the old cellars and getting to taste the PU straight from the wooden barrels. It is such an amazing beer, at least for me, and worth going on the tour for just that glass of beer. And yes, these days you get a glass, not the plastic cup, and not a tiny sample, but somewhere around 30 cl of the amazing golden stuff. As far as they say, the end part of the tour is the only place in the world (in modern days) where you’ll have the unfiltered non pasteurized PU that has fermented in oak vats and then been cellared in oak barrels. And yes, I still love it, and yes, I might take the tour again "just" to have that beer once more. My high score is basically for my love of that cellar and the beer, the our itself, albeit a tad impresseive, is mainly marketing, like most brewery tours.
Commercial brewery making the best real pilsener on earth.
Guided tour quite similar to similar in other macro breweries.
You may get unfiltered urquell other places too, but here’s undoubtedly the one with shortest transportation distance.
I stopped in just to buy the unfiltered version of their Pilsner and did not take the tour. It is a big place with some historic buildings poking through, otherwise very commercial. Worth a stop for the hard-to-find unfiltered.
Did the tour, was about 7 euros, and worth every penny. Professionally conducted and interesting history presented. Surprising level of access and openness. Beautiful drop of beer served too, straight from the tun. Recommended.
