Had lunch here and sampled the draft selection. It was okay. The service was slow and the pizza was decent. The atmosphere isn’t my favorite. I don’t think this particular branch is any form of beer destination, it just has an above-average selection, especially considering the presence of Hill Farmstead on the draft list. I think that if you want pizza and craft beer in this neck of the woods, this is your spot.
I wouldn’t say that this particular Positive has the notably best beer list (that title should go to its Hardwick location), but still: 2-3 Hill Farmstead beers, Fiddlehead, plenty of Zero Gravity, and some Lost Nation oddities are never a bad thing. They hire some truly exceptional musicians, so if anything go here for the music and to meet some cuties on the dance floor.
I walked in expecting American Flatbread quality pizza and left out a bit disappointed. Large, warmish, but darkish grotto-like atmosphere. Nice tap list, including more non-Vermont beers than most local pubs. HF, Stone and the likes are well represented. The pizza is good, perhaps even great, but not a world-beater by any means. Friendly service.
Positive Pie is a small chain of up-market pizza restaurants in Vermont, renown for quality beer and pizza. The Montpelier branch is well located in the centre of town. We came here for food and beer on a Monday night and the place was pretty quiet if truth be told. First up the pizza was tasty and plentiful and worth a visit for that alone. The beer selection covered 14 taps and perhaps about 25 bottles. They had a nice selection of Hill Farmstead in particular, with the likes of Fiddlehead, Lost Nation, Maine, Allagash and Jack’s Abby also represented. Service was decent and prices pretty standard for this part of the world. If you want food & good beer in Montpelier this is the place for you.
Nice enough place. A couple of Hill Farmstead on tap but otherwise the selection didn’t wow on my visit compared to other establishments in the area. The bottle list has some good options if looking to share. Decent food. Service was pretty slow to start with but was efficient once the waitress got going.
I went to a tap-takeover here last year and forgot to rate it. The pizza is awesome, not the best pizza in VT but certainly in the top 5. Usually a decent draft list. I’d say their food is pricey but come here for the draft beer and a pie with a friend and you’ll leave happy.
Stopped in with a buddy from out of town for lunch. We didn’t have pizza, we had sandwiches and both were tasty. The prices were fair and average for VT. As far as beer, 8 higher end, well thought out taps with Heady Topper available in cans. The bartender was friendly but not very talkative on a slow Tuesday lunch hour. I stopped here for a change of pace and they had four beers on tap I hadn’t rated so it was a win for me. Could be worth a return trip.
The atmosphere here is a bit more family and hippie oriented than the other locations. More restaurant, less bar than the other two, and the pizza of course is great if you’re not from New York. The beer list is reasonably good; worth checking in on as hill farmstead is represented on tap and in bottle. I prefer Plainfield for its better beer list and atmosphere, but this is a worthy second option in Montpelier.
Solid upscale pizza joint with a respectable range of beers on tap, both local and national. The pizza is relatively decadent and priced accordingly. Very nice ambiance, very friendly staff. Convenient location in central Montpelier. A good option for pizza with a beer.
Stopped in here while I was in town for the HF Festival, never been here before and once I heard about all of the HF beers on I knew where I was stopping for dinner.
Atmosphere was pretty good. Nice modern space filled with people enjoying themselves. Quality was pretty high. Our pizza was made with top notch ingredients and our beers were served in the correct glassware. Service was a little spotty at times. They were having their anniversary party so I think a bit of leeway needs to be applied but all in all I had no complaints about it. Selection was pretty crazy on our visit, in fact it is the entire reason for out visit. 5 limited HF beers and another limited Grassroots beer plus all of the others. You obviously wont see that every day, or ever again for that matter, so take it with a grain of salt. They appear to keep their tap list updated on the website so I suggest checking that for a better idea. Food was the highlight for me. We got a half bacon half cheese pizza and it was delicious. Prices on the beers were a touch high but the pizza was more than reasonable.
Overall another great option for beer / pizza in downtown Montpelier. I will definitely return next time I am in the area.

Love Montpelier so this is the Pie to head to. During Collected Works week, but they had a killer draft list with 5 HF, including some rare ones. Service was quick, more than friendly and knew a lot about the beer. Laid back place, off atmosphere for a pizza place reminding me Euro decor. I’d like to check out during a normal week, but I was really impressed with them, best draft list in Vermont while we were there, not even close.
Upon a re-visit a year later they had no HF and the draft list was pedestrian. Had to lower these from an 84 to the present score.
