Great selection of ciders and beer but the whole place reeked of chlorine.

Visited a number of times when I used to come to Birmingham on business a few years back. Today was first visit for about 4-5 years and it’s not changed one bit. Except that today was a leisurely Sunday afternoon so plenty of seating available, and previous visits were weekday evenings when it was always very busy. Has a small but interesting selection of beers on tap, and a large and very well organised bottle list. One of the must visit pubs when in Birmingham.

Visited on Saturday 04/02/17 around 5pm. Just up from New St station, you can link this one up on a crawl to the Purity bar or the Wellington then back to New St or continue over the railway bridge at the north of the station to Cherry Reds and Brewdog, as we did. Small cramped bar that was pretty chocca full when we visited. Nowhere to sit and nowhere to even perch drinks as such. Clientele was largely male and middle aged. 4 or 5 cask lines supplemented by some craft kegs. Range on tap was ok but far from exciting. Service was good considering how busy the place was. Ok place for a scoop or two but not somewhere I’d rush back to, certainly not when this busy.

An interesting, cozy, medium sized, and a traditional-modern kind of pub serving eight hand pulled cask ales, lots of keg and a huge range of bottles. Music free, relaxed atmosphere, and friendly service offering tasters of their draught beers.Close to the New Street train station, straight out of the station to the right and the pub is located at the top of Pinfold Street (the New Street address can be confusing). (Visited with Finn, 21.09.2016).

Probably THE BEST place for good beer in Birmingham. Good looking and cousy place. Solid bottle selection. They have a quite updated beer menu. Friendly and helpful staff. It was actually a bit difficult to find when I used google. Ask someone. It is a 5 min walk from New Street Train Station. The address in New Street but….It is two entrances.

Posiblemente uno de los mejores pubs que he encontrado en UK con una carta de botella impresionante y a precios bastante buenos. De Molen, Cantillon, Espiga, Rogue... La lista de casks creo que se podría mejorar pero aún así está bien.

Going down in to the basement doesn’t give this place the greatest ambiance - slightly gloomy. Was not very busy so this would effect that, to be fair. Pretty good array of beers - suppose people’s opinions will depend on how many ticks they already have. Staff were very helpful, googling some info when I asked a question about a specific beer. However then tried to convince me to buy another beer instead of the one I’d selected, despite my protestations that I was after a specific tick. Wouldn’t go out of my way to go here again, but would drop in if passing.

Was a bit unimpressed with this place, after the high reviews on here. Ambience was OK, traditional English pub style. Selection is supposed to be great but there is no list and you can’t see into the fridges. Service was friendly enough but then I was given a Saison (albeit a very dry and hoppy one) when I asked for an IPA. Disappointed on this visit!

This is a great pub for a number of reasons and not so much for others. Basically they have staff that know their stuff but they are either too busy to talk or can’t really be bothered. Very laid back. There are only a few draft/cask beers which are usually is well selected. The bottle collection is nice but way over priced and it usually doesn’t change. If you went to Cotridge, you can find it all there for more than half the price. I only come in here for the casks.
