Don’t get fooled by the name! He he, this is a pub or bar or beer palace and it serves lots of Czech beers, some of them in the craftbeer/micro style we more north western Europeans have gotten used to. I got lots of different beers here, most of them really pleasant and the girls who worked here were aces, really friendly and they kept letting me taste samples and so on.
But... The bar itself is very dark and having lived without smoking in Norway for the past decade and a half, it is quite a shock to the system meeting a wall of smoke. I sat in the nice little backyard, had my beers and talked to one of the two or three cats who wanted to say hi.
Good selection of 30 taps of mostly quite traditional Czech beers but the tobacco smoke and insanely loud music ruined it for me. Just didn’t make any sense to have night club level of volume in a beer pub. You can’t have any kind of conversation or even hear the staff. I liked the other Prague Beer Museum in Namesti Miru way more.
Yes the smoke is a big problem So is the incessant music, with TV as substitute noise pollution if it goes off. But apart from that .... the 30 draught beers on a partially-cycling list do represent Czech beer in the round and the deScriptions on the menu and pretty accurate. There is usually something good from Kocour and Matouska and Lucky Bastard if you like their stuff. Baronka is about as mainstream svetly lezak as they get.
A very friendly place with great atmosphere. Samples from 30 taps of mainly czech micro breweries. Smoking allowed, which is a drawback to me. Good beer menu, but staff doesn’t seem to be as into as they should be.
I’ll be back
I just loved this place’s beer flights of ten at a time, a true beer rater’s paradise, though most of the beers they offer are of the boring Czech lager persuasion. A great experience nonetheless with free wi-fi, we hung out here for far too long sampling all the beers. A good stop.
This place is a dive. It was super hot when we went in, and super noisy, and super smoky. Lots of college kids looking to get ripped. They do have a good lineup of beers. Those we had were in good condition, though they did not always know the name. Handle with care.
Good place. 30 taps sounds great but seeing more than half of them were lagers (10 of those pale lagers) my enthusiasm lowered. Of course there were also some interesting beers which managed to keep me busy for some time. Decent ambiance and service. Worth visiting, but I’m not sure I’d come back. Don’t see it as beer enthusiasts place, more like decent bar with wide but not too interesting selection.
