I decided to go to the Pig for dinner on my first night in Waterbury. I will never turn down BBQ and they have an amazing tap list so it was a no brainer for me.
Upon entering the ambiance it pretty nice. Lots of people all over the place eating and chatting amongst themselves. I snagged the last seat at the bar and looked over the tap list, that is when I knew it was going to be a good night. They have some amazing things on tap and I was happy to see they offered half pours so I could try more of them. The quality was pretty high. My beers were good, as was my food.
Service was good. I never had to wait for a refill or to place my food order and the bartenders certainly knew there stuff. The selection of beers, as I said, was top notch. 4-5 Hill Farmsteads, 2 Lawson’s and Heady Topper on tap. I would kill to have that selection at my neighborhood BBQ spot. As far as the food goes, I decided to go with the pulled brisket with a side of fries and baked beans. Beans and brisket were ok, I used some of their bacon BBQ sauce to make it better, and the fries were excellent with their smoked ketchup. Prices were a little high across the board. If they tried to charge what they do down here they would be out of business quick.
Overall a really nice beer bar with above average food, albeit a little overpriced. I will return when I am in the area.
Visited on a busy Wednesday night. I think they are pretty busy every night, so just go and wait it out. It’s worth it. The draft list is the same on this side as well as the brewery side, so if you want something a little more relaxed, go there and hang out. We had about a 10 minute wait despite originally being told about 45 minutes. Once sat down, we had already looked over the menu and knew we wanted a brisket sandwich and the duck fat fries. Both came out quickly and were great. The fries were a bit overcooked, but still tasted great. One complaint I have is the inability to do a beer flight. Half pours just aren’t the same. Despite that, the place is still awesome and a must stop when anywhere near Waterbury.
Pretty modern space, decent amount of seating. Service was good and friendly. Half the beers were from their brewery, others from all over.menu was large with some good options. Prices, like everything else in Vermont are high.
A cool place that takes the building of the Alchemist brew pub, happy to see they are brewing now. Food was good, but expensive, I guess the same can be said for the beer. Wish it wasn’t always packed.
Visited a few times on my visits to Vermont. Great location and ambiance. Have always sat at the bar where the service was outstanding. They have great locals on tap plus and nice bottle list. Was able to order food at the bar which was served quickly and was great. Prices were reasonable and overall a must visit while in Vermont. Cheers!
Last of our stops in Waterbury and our spot for dinner for the evening. It’s a rather large restaurant space with a big bar and plenty of seating. Compared to some of the other places in town, sort of a more modern feel to it.
They have the same draft list here as in the brewery/taproom, so you do not need to go to both if you want to try all they have to offer. Even the guest beers are the same. There’s a huge list of liquor and some really nice cocktails here, too.
The food is pretty much BBQ, but they have some other things too. The mac and cheese that my fiancee got was really killer. We seriously got an embarrassing amount of food and it was all good. Pretty reasonably priced, too. Highly recommend a meal here when you’re in town.
When work calls me out to Waterbury, I have no problem ever stopping in at this restaurant to have a fantastic meal along with their own BBQ sauces specially made by them along with their great beers. Guests taps are even spectacular. And they always plan well for adequate service during peak times.
Great place. Good food, with good prices. And the beer - great selection! Some real top notch beers with a variety of styles. Plus their own brews aren’t bad (the DIPA I had was really good). Overall a great stop for any beer lover. Busy though; get there early or wait a long time for a table.
Visited a couple of times. Nice place at 3 min from Hwy 89. Can be crowded during lunchs, especially in summer. Beer selection is great: The Alchemist. Hill Framstead, Lawson’s. They also have their own brews and other Vermont stuff too. Service is great, food looks awesome (but I never had a meal... next time!). A must-stop-place without a doubt.
