Had the Tally tasting here. Great bar, although was very loud for the World Cup. The craft beer bar has college kids. Interesting. Anyway, the ambiance is like an upscale beer bar with lots of open space for milling. The service was Johnny-on-the-spot and was very cool. Great taps and selection including Jai Alai and Maduro from CCB. Seems like they have some of the best beer in Tally. If I was around Tally, I would hang out here.
Fairly non-assuming and small looking building located near the FSU campus. The crowd on a Saturday night mostly consisted of college students or twenty something year olds. The upstairs area that we went to (apparently there’s a downstairs?) was quite modern and trendy. Certainly has a lounge feel to it. The selection of their own beer and other fairly common microbrews was excellent. They had about a dozen of their beers on tap as well as a couple guest taps. At least 20 microbrew bottles. Service was just normal, nothing special. Their prices are pretty good. Most beers were $5. Overall this is definitely a must visit if in the area.
Proof is a special place...by far my best find on the last night of a 3000 mi road trip from central FL to KC/OK, and back past the Gulf beaches. I love the setup...atmosphere...pictures/paintings on the walls...and especially the downstairs bar (very cool vibe down there). The beers are very good...and well worth a special visit...I would recommend any craftbeer fans from the northeast or Midwest passing near Tallahassee on their way to say Cigar City...include Proof in your adventure! Also, go the bottle shop next door and the brewery tasting room not far away (make sure to get a Crowler or two!)
No food, but great beer. Wide selection of guests and an ever changing set of their own. Upstairs has s sports bar feel with I very large TV. Downstairs feels more like an industrial pub. Near campus so sometimes the crowd is loud.
I really wanted to love this place, so well thought out and so much to offer, but the lack of customer service killed it for me. The bar opens at 5, I was outside waiting for 90 minutes and when they opened, didn’t decide to let me know. The upstairs is trendy, almost lounge like. Staff was good, but not really helpful. When I saw people disappearing with bottles in their hand I asked what was going on. There was a bottle share in the other part of the bar. No sign or indication this exists. Different taps as well. I head down and am very happily surprised by a nice basement geek bar. People sharing bottles and a much more adventurousness tap list. Bartender was involved in geek bottle share and after so many clues, let me sit alone. I have had much worse bars make sure i was involved and had a good experience than this, too bad. On the up side beer is good and cheap.
Visited january 2014-i had a fantastic time at this place! visited on a busy friday night but the staff was very friendly and catered to my needs. selection was very good minus their own beers, which they only had 4 on tap when i was there. a must stop if your in Tallahassee!
This place had a great beer selection even prior to becoming a brewery, and the addition of the brewery and expansion downstairs was a great step even further. The house beers are fantastic, and I haven’t been disappointed yet. This place is setting the bar for beer quality and selection in the area. There are regular special events and releases, but if they are combined with a glassware give away the college students will pack in like sardines and slow the service to a crawl. I am greatly anticipating the railroad square location, and the improved parking that goes with it.
Without a doubt the biggest and best selection of beers in town. 50 taps that can include anything your taste buds desire. Its great to see a bar right smack in the middle of a college town with such a deep tap list. On the weekends and late at night this place can be packed out, but if you’re looking for a chill atomosphere be sure to check out their happy hour 5-7pm($1 off drafts, wines, liquors) any day of the week. No food available in the bar, but they allow you to bring in your own. Service is great, and staff is very knowledgeable about the beers on tap. Parking is a bit tight but you can park at the Chick-Fil-A or Starbucks next door. Also be sure to try the house brews, they’re world class.
Proof is a great little bar tucked away in a mess of FSU’s college bar scene. Brewery on site, that knocks out some superb brews, esp their Rye. Liquor store attached that sells almost zero macro, and a medium sized craft selection, but the selection is well varied. I frequent here several times a week. If you’re not of college age, don’t worry. The college crowd doesn’t show up until pretty late (9ish); so you easily find a seat and a bartender to chat beer with. Most of the staff is knowledgeable about most beer styles, and they certainly know the beers brewed in house.
