Placed an order online with Purvis and it arrived at my doorstep in Brisbane two days later. Fast, efficient service and a great range of beers available, and there’s always something new on offer. Reasonably priced as well. Cheers guys! Update August ’12. Visited the Bridge Rd. shop. Nice big space with a lot of bottles here. Can’t be sure on what sort of turnover they have but some beers looked past their best before date (PA, IPAs and the like). Stick to local beers and you should be safe.
What a find! Being an ex-pat Melburnian this place was a real treat - a far better selection than pretty much any place I’ve been, including in Belgium and the UK. Some of the more obscure beers are represented including Mikeller, a good range of Flying Dog, a bunch of quality Aussie micros (and some lesser quality ones), and a whole host of continental and UK beers. The chap who served me was enthusiastic and helpful, and knowledgeable with it. What a beer retailer should aspire to be.
While the interior is a bit run down the selection is fantastic and Simon has a huge knowledge of his product line. This is a great place to go and just browse beers to find something to take your fancy. An unparalleled selection of small Aussie brewers as well as an impressive international line up. Make time for a visit, I dont think you will be disappointed.

It might by a distance from the centre of town. You have to look sharp or you will miss it. BUT! the trip is worth it even if you keep going round in circles to find it. The range of beers I am not sure is the biggestbut, it has to be definetly the best. Anything Cantillon to Brewdog to Sierra Nevada, it’s got the lot. Staff are friendly enough, place needs a touch up though. A fair dinkum MUST!
I was very impressed at the selection, especially in the belgian\german section. They even had a bargain bin, which is a rarity, these types of places are usually out to ream you. The staff seemed nice enough, and I guess they do have a discount if you buy more than 6. I will return there for sure, I was impressed.
Great selection of beers from around the world, most recently a bunch of dupont and brew dog. If you’re after new rates, this is the place to come.. they have a fantastic selection of aussie micros and brittish ales. Prices are fair, but you get a 10% discount if you buy more than six which is a solid deal. They have beer tasting sessions occasionally, and the staff like to have a chat about the nice beers. Its a bitch to get to/from from the city though if you’re carrying a box of beers.
The east coast’s best bottle shop by a country mile. First place in Australia where I’ve found twice as many new rates as I could carry. Bought around 20 singles and could have bought at least 20 more if I had another pair of hands for carrying. Just as an example, this place had four different Ethiopian beers. (If Ethiopia is anything like Tanzania, that’s probably two more than the average Ethiopian bottle shop.) There was also a good selection of Brits and Belgians, and a huge range of Victorian micros and a few from WA. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. They know about RateBeer and they appreciate our support. The good news for us interstaters is that a mail order service is planned in the next four months. The shop is a bugger to get to but very much worth it. I took the train (15 min wait, 30 min journey, 10 min walk after asking for directions) there and a tram back. The tram stop is 30 metres from the shop so it’s the best option.

Not only the best grog shop in Melbourne but probably the entire east coast. The competition is in the west of course but this shop also attempts seriously (and successfully from what I can see) to be a fair dinkum wine lover’s place as well. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff and a great range of Aussie beers. I took the 109 out there and sure enough, it is sure a hike. A good 40 minutes on a fairly light traffic day. I ended up buting a fair range that meant I also needed to buy a back pack to transport my booty home to Sydney. My only wish is that this place produced a regular list. Difficult I know.
Fantastic for beer. Fantastic for wine. The staff are always very helpfull. Only 5 minutes from home! Just about every micro brewery in Australia. Loads from Europe also. They also have tasting sessions!
Man, this place is awesome - so many Vic micros I’d never even heard of, and very helpful staff. They did me up a discount on a sixpack of stuff they generally just sold as six singles, gave me about 20% off it. Very impressed - and it’s only just down the road from my Grandma’s, much better than if it were in the CBD, haha!
