Situated 10+ mins from train station in a residential area, this pub is definitely worthy of inclusion in any Chelmsford pub crawl. Small range of ales, mainly Crouch Vale but with one or two guests. Nice patio at the back for summer beers and a real fire inside for the winter.

Nice little place outside the city centre. A bit worn. Eight casks and a few bottles. Quite authentic pub with darts game. Poor wifi.

Decent cask selection, and also an ok bottle selection. Traditional Brittish interiør. Nice open fire place by Therese bare. Friendly staff, and clean toilets. It is also a patio in the end of the pub. 1 min walk from Orange Tree, and about 15 to 20 min walk train/buss station. Well worth a visit.

One of the few Crouch Vale pubs, this one offers six cask ales with three from the brewery, in addition to a few more Crouch Vale beers on bottles. Victorian interiors with wooden benches in front of the bar and opening up with a larger room in the back. Rather cozy with an open fire place. Polite service. Quiet early on a Sunday afternoon. Situated in the same street as Orange Tree in the outskirts of the city. (Visited with Cunningham 19.02.2017).

Decent traditional mens pub, a bit stark compared to plusher pubs. (A bit like the Live and Let Live in Cambridge.) BIggest downside was the toxic dogs that kinda got in the way and drooled everywhere. Upside was the lack of music. Beer selection was decent, and did include non-Crouch Vale beers. Staff competent and served with a smile. If you’re Orange Tree-ing, then you might as well pop round here too, it’s literally just around the corner.

Brewers gold was my favourite beer for long time ( not anymore ) so when I lived in London came here 3 times .. The pub itself is nothing special in architecture .. In my visits I always found some guest beers but I’m talking about few years ago ..if someone comes here please say hello to Kevin the gardener my drink mate at the queens ..

Seemingly miles off the beaten track in a residential area. Unofficial Crouch Vale brewery tap. I am informed they no longer do guest beers.

Visited a few times over the years. It’s the Crouch Vale brewery tap and, whilst they are not as exciting (relatively) as they once were, it’s still an essential stop. Back street location, a bit off the Chemsford beaten track but not much of an effort. It’s a pleasant pub although nothing out of the ordinary in terms of architecture or ambience. I’d describe it as comfortable and unpretentious. Expect to find four Crouch Vale beers and four guests. Well worhwhile.

Descent real ale pub close to Essex County Cricket Ground. Prominent range of ales on tap. Always Crouch Vale beers. In bottles you can get Coopers’ Pale Ale and VB. You can pick up a couple of drab German beers on tap but nothing too special. Replace the German beers on tap with something better and include a few Belgian ales and especially Rochefort then this pub will get a higher rating. All in all an honest and authentic pub. One of the better pubs in Chelmsford.

Paid a visit to this ale mecca on 27th August 2008. A really fantastic pub, with well-kept range of around six ales mainly from Crouch Vale, but with microbrewery guests as well. Divided into two quite spacious and accommodating drinking areas and attracts ale enthusiasts from near and far. I visited on my own but soon found myself in conversation with regulars and locals. The pub is well worth seeking out for beer quality and pleasant atmosphere.
