Was here last night for happy hour. A nice atmosphere and pretty good service at the bar. Just ordered chili cheese fries and some beers from their draft and bottle list. About 20 or so beers on tap ranging from Magic Hat #9 to La Chouffe and a decent bottle list but nothing spectacular. Probably the best Kent has to offer but pales in comparison to other brewpubs. They did have free wifi though which was nice.
I usually stop in here before classes when it is not packed to the gills with undergraduates drinking cheap swill. Last time I visited Hopslam was just on and very good.
The selection tends to cover a few typical beers but there is always a suprise or two waiting. The food is respectable and on par with most other bars.
Parking can be tricky - you may end up walking a block or two as there is not much in the immediate area. Still if you need a combination of food and beer this is the best place in town to stop.
Been a while but I used to go here from time to time with some buddies in Kent. Good bar, especially considering the crazy college atmosphere. Nice selection. Recommended.

College town type bar with the best burgers around. Really, it’s worth a stop just for the burgers in my opinion. Beer selection - decent bottle selection, good prices. Draught selection - not the best, but always with one or two great beers.
I made the mistake of making my first experience at this place on a Saturday night during move in weekend. The 19 year old checking ID’s at the door took about 3 minutes per person for inspection. I realize that it’s a college town and there are a bunch of under-age types who would love to get in and you have to be careful, but come on!!!! Once inside, the mob scene turned me off. So did having different product available only upstairs or downstairs. Decent selection and the staff was amazingly fast and accurate considering the circumstances. I’d check this joint out again, but during a less crowded time.
Great place to go (live everyone else said) before 10 PM around when the kitchen closes. The food is great and they have daily specials. Believe it or not but their quiche is awesome. Great selection of tap beers and seasonal tap beers. The bottle coolers are always stocked with some surprises and great beers. Charlie does good things for his people and for his customers. As an old school Ray’s frequenter I would have to say it is the best beer drinking bar in town.
I miss Ray’s place... it was one of the best places to go to in Kent. Lotsa good beers (yea, they had the cheapo college ones as well), but for a college town to cater to the good beer drinker is nice.

Typiccal college bar with the menu to match. Lots of different bottles of beer and taps, cheap menu for food, and a decor that clashes between old time neighborhood bar and college bar. Upstairs is a little more upscale, but I’d avoid going after 10:00 PM on Friday or Saturday nights from late August to early May, unless you like crowded college bars. Great burgers!
Lots of beer choices (tap and bottle) with absolutely the best burgers and fries in town. Beer selection includes some seasonals that may surprise you at times. As uvajed stated, don't go there after 10 PM unless you like bright lights, fake women, and frat boys drinking bud lt.
Popularly considered the best "college bar" in the area, Ray's can be a fun place. The food is typical bar-food, with a few less common items, like crawfish and clams, for example. The selection of beers is also fairly nice, and easily the best in town. The location (and view, if you sit upstairs and look out over the river) are also historic, in a local way.
Good points aside, Ray's is not a place to be after 10PM, unless you are a meathead of the stereotypical "frat boy" type, or the kind of girl who enjoys having the same 1000 of those guys use the same one-liner on you every night. Nice once in a while with a group of friends, but deinitely not a place I'd hang-out regularly. (The bars nextdoor and around the corner are both much more conducive to that, though in different ways.)
