Large space with a segregated dining area. I sat at the bar and didn’t bother to check out the restaurant side. The tap list was large, but a bit light on locals. I settled with a Furious to go with my dinner. The food was OK, nothing to rave about. Prices weren’t cheap (though it seems they have pretty good happy hour deals). Service was transactional, not especially friendly.

I enjoyed the food and the beer, but I really liked the well worn interior of this place. The outside seating in front of the Republic was very lively. Definitely worth a detour
Hmm, I like this place but I also hate this place. Bartender (Joe?) took my menu never asked if I wanted food or more beer, then eventually figured it out later in the night, they were out of a couple things I wanted to try, you have to pay to park as the "free street" is now an hour limit 24hrs a day, there was even a cop sitting there watching. Pretty big tap list but inaccurate and the bartender couldnt be bothered to tell me what Evil Twin seasonal was on tap only that it was a belgian IPA. Bison Burger was good and greens needed to be dressed better. lots of people but doesnt feel stuffy and bar can get quite dim as the evening progresses. I’d come back if I was in a pinch or they had something exceptional on tap.
Been here a bunch, about time I rate this place. Can be a bit noisy at times, but the patio in the warmer months is a great escape from inside. Inside is typically pretty dark, but nice for a few beers and good food. Servers are typically very knowledgeable (with some RB members working there even!) and have had good suggestions in the past. Food is always phenomenal- their fish tacos are always a "go to", other items, such as their fries and house made ketchup are great as well. Happy hour here is great, with cheap local beers and some good food deals as well. Samplers are also offered, with great pricing.. Expect to spend some $$ here, but only because they have tons of great beer to try, and more than one food item you will want to have as well. It’s also worth stating that The Republic is also a great advocate for Craft Beer in general; Hosting WTWBA, RBSG events, beer school, etc. They will continue that have my business!
This is, perhaps, my new favourite beer bar in Minneapolis. The atmosphere is really cool, old, classy. Loads of great taps. Very knowledgable, friendly and generous staff. This is definitely a place I’ll go back to whenever I’m in Minneapolis. Ranks with Happy Gnome as the best in the Twin Cities. (This place is smaller and less of a restaurant than Happy Gnome).

This is the better location of the two. Love this place for happy hour in the summer, has a huge patio and really nice happy hour special. Pretty good food all around. Very nice tap selection and friendly staff semi knowledgeable. Plus Town Hall is right across the street. Unlike the Calhoun Square location this doesn’t have the same vibe as the previous bar.
These guys put on a great event; I was very impressed. A number of brewers came out and talked about their beers and passed them around the room. There was also all you can eat breakfast in the back as well as some interesting kegs on tap (Surly Urine Trouble, Bourbon County, Cacao Bender, and a few others). I didnt get a good look at the rest of the tap list but if I was in that part of town I’d stop in again for the food.
