I have been to RR many times and just realized I have never rated it. Of course, this is a destiniation place for any beer geek visiting the North Bay. There is always a good selection of the classics on tap, and some in bottles, as well as some rather spectacular seasonals such as the Younger and Beatificaton. The food is decent and the ambience is quite beer geeky. Service is good, except for special occasions when there are often block-long lines.
Visited on a friday evening. The large place was quite stacked with a very lively, almost noisy atmosphere. No table directly available, but that changed quickly. We spent many hours here and noticed the line of people waiting for a table becoming longer and longer, so you’d be smart to place a reservation if you plan to visit Russian River. During the evening our friendly server treated us to a large selection of fine to excellent ranging beers. Especially the sours were exceptional. Good mix of year round and special beers. Prices are quite fair and the food is quality stuff, had a damn good pizza with my beers. To the left of the entrance is an area where you can buy bottled beers, I saw many locals walking off with boxes of 12 Pliny’s. Got some myself for friends back home as well as a beer in the Belgian range that was not on draft at this time. Russian River was really worth the pilgrimage to Santa Rosa.
The beer and the pizza here are great. The selection of beers is impressive, and overall the quality is high. With more than 20 house beers across tap and bottle, the selection here is just about the best I have seen at a brewpub. The pricing is very fair. On the downside, this place is very popular and seems to always be busy. On top of that, some of the staff (not all, thankfully) aren’t the friendliest folks; perhaps dealing with the incessant crowds has hardened a few to the point of curtness. It almost seemed like the feeling among some staff was ’we are so popular that we don’t have to make you feel welcome while you’re waiting’. Once seated, the experience was great. This place also has a bottle/merchandise shop near the entrance, where you can get the classic Russian River beers, t-shirts, etc. If you’re travelling through Santa Rosa, you should make sure to visit Russian River - just make sure you either arrive early or are prepared to wait a bit.
Visited Firday evening before RBBest. After queueing for a few minutes where I got to know some other Ratebeerians, we were allowed to enter and gave our details so we could attain a seating later. Went with STS Pils, Supplication and Consecration from tap for the wait, but soon we were seated. I ordered a flight and a pizza. My flight contained 19 samples, an impressive lineup of various styles. Needless to say, this place does everything right as far as brewpubs goes. I helped myself to a shirt and some bottles on the way out. Growlers are also available.
We visited Russian River on Sunday night, right after the Ratebeer Best awards and bottle share. It was crowded but we were lucky and found easily a place to sit. We had the famous flights and a very nice pizza. No need to say a lot about this place, great ambiance, great service, good beers!
Seemed crowded to me on a Sunday night, but was informed that it was fairly slow. Had their flight of around 20. Everything was first class here. Service was beyond excellent. Only negative was that they were out of Blind Pig. Pizza was very good. Adjacent shop for shirts and Pliny (and others). Obviously a must visit.
