Visited in March 2015; An outstanding brewery. Good food and great beer. The place was packed on the night we stopped by. I had a Pliney first, which of course was outstanding. We then waited nearly an hour for our pizza and the beer flight, but it was well worth it. The flight was unlike anything I've seen elsewhere - 19 different beers! They were arranged in two rows with one row being all Belgian style beers. One of my favorite brewery experiences even with the wait. They also have a nice little store where you can get your brewery swag and growlers to go.
Never a dull moment, hard to find a quiet time, or a seat. Good food, sours much better than expected, other beers run the gamut from decent to great Worth the wait? Depends on how bad you want a Pliny....
Can't say much about the ambiance of the pub, as we sat outside. Rather busy on the Thursday evening that we visited. Service was efficient, if not overly friendly. 20 own beers on tap, no guests that I could see. I had three beers - Blind Pig, Pliny the Elder and Consecration, all of which were really good. Food-wise we had a pizza and a tuna sandwich, both of which were great. Prices seemed decent. A must if in the area!
Visited here while on vacation in early August ’17. Can;t add much more than what others have said. Great interior of old beer signs, classic looking mirrored bar, Located in a nice downtown area, parking nearby. Had well over 20 on tap, available in half pints, pints, tasters and growlers, The prices were extremely reasonable. Pliny for $5 - come on! Prompt and friendly service, waiter appeared to show up just as glasses were getting empty. Food was solid, If any where near the area, a must stop!
Did the pilgrimage with a bus from sf. Amazing to see how busy the place was on a monday morning. Beers were great of course, with lots of stuff that’s not available anywhere else. Food was really delicious as well. The beer is well-priced, especially the tasters. As someone else said, this place does everything right. Worthy of the legend.
Worked the paddles hard whilst my missus nodded into her pizza. Fingers cramping by the time I’d finished with that lot- some 24 tumblers, none of them filler. Would have undoubtedly got more out of our visit if it wasn’t at 6am GMT coming in off a night shift- not RR’s fault. Succulent pizza dripping with oil and herb but it didn’t arrive until 7am, Sours and hopped up low ABV stuff especially superlative, before the term ’session IPA’ was even invented. Got a couple of pints in after the samplers were polished. An unpretentious rowdy midweek barroom feel. It is just a bar- serving world class beer. As mentioned elsewhere, it is also possibly a victim of that beer’s irresistible draw.
Visited on a friday evening. The large place was quite stacked with a very lively, almost noisy atmosphere. No table directly available, but that changed quickly. We spent many hours here and noticed the line of people waiting for a table becoming longer and longer, so you’d be smart to place a reservation if you plan to visit Russian River. During the evening our friendly server treated us to a large selection of fine to excellent ranging beers. Especially the sours were exceptional. Good mix of year round and special beers. Prices are quite fair and the food is quality stuff, had a damn good pizza with my beers. To the left of the entrance is an area where you can buy bottled beers, I saw many locals walking off with boxes of 12 Pliny’s. Got some myself for friends back home as well as a beer in the Belgian range that was not on draft at this time. Russian River was really worth the pilgrimage to Santa Rosa.
The beer and the pizza here are great. The selection of beers is impressive, and overall the quality is high. With more than 20 house beers across tap and bottle, the selection here is just about the best I have seen at a brewpub. The pricing is very fair. On the downside, this place is very popular and seems to always be busy. On top of that, some of the staff (not all, thankfully) aren’t the friendliest folks; perhaps dealing with the incessant crowds has hardened a few to the point of curtness. It almost seemed like the feeling among some staff was ’we are so popular that we don’t have to make you feel welcome while you’re waiting’. Once seated, the experience was great. This place also has a bottle/merchandise shop near the entrance, where you can get the classic Russian River beers, t-shirts, etc. If you’re travelling through Santa Rosa, you should make sure to visit Russian River - just make sure you either arrive early or are prepared to wait a bit.
