I hadn’t read the reviews. I didn’t know what I was walking in to. All I knew was that some friend of a friend of a guy who worked at some place I stopped in at told me to check it out. You pull up and it’s a gas station and self-serve carwash with a little brick building. Next to a highway overpass. Totally unassuming. I figured they’d have a few coolers of nationally-distributed stuff and maybe something that the guy who recommended it hadn’t seen before. Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. Walk in the door and everywhere you look, beer. Glorious, wonderful beer. Bottles everywhere. Shelving of all types packed full of nearly everything you can think of. All fairly well organized. You can definitely find what you’re looking for very quickly, but the layout also invites you to wander around and take in the selection. There’s a whole wire shelf dedicated to promotional beer glassware from tons of breweries. Which is really awesome. Near the front there’s markdowns on seasonals and stuff they’re looking to unload. Always worth browsing. Walk towards the back, past the front counter, and you’ve got coolers on your right and a back room full of stuff. In front of you are aisles of more beer. Oh, and there’s a good selection of cigars and some wine. They also have rotating taps. I think hopslam was there not too long ago. Definitely keep tabs on their facebook page! The staff are awesome, as well. Very knowledgeable, very friendly, and can provide recommendations on the spot - no matter what you’re looking for. They introduced me to some fantastic beers the first time I stopped in, even though I wasn’t sure what style I was looking for at first. There are always regulars hanging around, chatting. It’s a great atmosphere. Prices are comparable with everywhere else in the area on things they carry in-common. Prices on hard-to-find or limited distribution stuff are good. I’ve never felt the need to hold off on a purchase, fearing I wasn’t getting a good deal.

This place is apparently where it all begins in North Carolina. It is unassuming from the outside, but once you walk in you realize the beer mecca that this pace is. They have more than any other place I have been to and they know what they are talking about. They helped me learn to love beer and showed me what a beer store could be.

Really enjoyed running into TURDFERGUSON here, even though the stop was very rushed during an evening drive from Fort Bragg to DC. Massive selection, but more importantly it’s very well organized. NC to the left, along with the ciders and meads. US beers straight ahead. Cozy nook off to the side for the foreign stuff. Tons of coolers as well. And, of course, taps, growlers and crowlers (just added). Top notch service. Go out of your way to visit this place. There are enough other places in the immediate area to make the stop even more worthwhile.

I’ve been here many times now, and today I find the place is now entirely devoted to beer (and wine). Lots of taps now, more than I remember from before, and I hear of their plans to build out the back and add 1600 feet more space. Woot!

Bi-polar store. First part makes a 7-11 look like a high class place. Next room over, and you have a phenomenal selection. They have plenty of macro selections, but they also dedicate major space to craft beers from all over the world. Decent prices with some good sales. Selection is a little haphazard looking, but everything is pretty well labeled. They allow you to break sixers, and the staff is helpful and friendly. Best beer store I’ve seen yet. You must stop here if you’re anywhere near Durham.

Stopped by here again today. Still feels like I’m a kid in a candy store.

Plenty of parking right on the side of the building. Couple dozen people in this place, half a dozen employees. Friendly and helpful staff. Big selections and pretty good prices. Some tap selections to be had. Hope to go back some time.

Sam’s Quick Shop is the best beer store I’ve been to in the southeastern region. They have an overwhelming selection, friendly and helpful staff, and fair prices.
