Visited on Friday night. Busy traditional pub in the centre of the old town. Great interior. Two rooms inside, one which seems to be for the locals and one for everyone else. Many people just take a beer from the counter that is in the corridor and drink it outside. More beers available inside though. Between us we tried the rauch weizen, rauch märzen and the urbock.Preferred the märzen at Spezial but the other two beers here were really good. Service was typically (for Germany) brusque and efficient (tho’ one waitress in the ’locals bar’ was outright unfriendly). Didn’t try any food. Prices good. Great place to visit.

Packed full, drank the beer outside, some confusing stuff going on with the fee you have to pay for the glass where you get a token and such... confusing as hell. prices ok i guess, you only come here for the beer i guess.

A must of course, beautiful old building, lots of halls and crannies, nice beer von fass, but it can get extremely crowded during high season.

One beer. One damn beer. But oh my, what a beer it is. The Holzfass Rauchbier from the wooden barrel is an experience that is worth a trip to Bamberg just on its own. We got our beer through the window and stood outside as you traditionally do it around here. Usually touristy and crowded, but for all the good reasons.

Aww, finally, Schlenkerla. A beautiful medieval house in the heart of Bamberg right below the Dom. The place where everybody meets. Can be ridiculously busy on a summer evening (as in: 200 people are standing on the streets in front of it), but don’t worry, you can always just get your Holzfass Rauchbier from the Stehausschank (which serves you incredibly fast) and stand outside or wherever you want. The beer does not need any description, Schlenkerla from the barrel is incredible - you don’t know what you’re missing out on until you’ve had it. I gave the perfect selection score because you come here exactly for the beer they’re serving and nobody needs anything else than that. This is the mekka where everything in Bamberg comes together. It’s touristy, but you’ll enjoy your Seidla meeting new people. And you can’t get barrel Schlenkerla anywhere else, so...

A real adventure of a place. From the beautiful exterior to the Barrel serving near the entrance and the regulars area, to the electric door toilets and out the back beer garden (of sorts) this is a fun place to drink. Tap list is limited to two beers when we were there.

Ambiance - Big German bar with plenty of people at any time of the day. Can’t say it’s cozy but it has the kind of ambiance you’d expect from a place like this.
Service - Friendly if a bit impersonal.
Selection - They had two of their own beers available at our visit.
Food - Did not eat.
Value - Expensive for the area but still very very cheap.
Additional comments - None!
