I’ve been to Shallos quite a few times. It’s without a doubt the best place on the Southside for beers. An incredibly large selection on draft. Occasionally, they will have something super "rare" or hard to find. Always a great selection of Stone Brewing and Founders in particular. Food is usually pretty good to great. Service is almost always excellent, If Doug is bartending make sure to talk to him about beer - he knows a thing or two... Generally, when Shallos is busier you will find that more people sitting at the bar are swilling Light/Lite beer - This can actually be quite refreshing if you are used to/tired of snooty upscale (read: crowded, pricey, and pretentious) bars. The one and only downside to Shallos is that some beers maybe heavily "marked up." To avoid this, it’s best to stick to draft brews and only order off the bottle or "carry menu" if completely necessary to obtain a rarity. Do keep in mind, there are some excellent bottle shops VERY nearby!
Wonderful little tucked away place....decor is nice wood and dark tin painted ceilings...beer everywhere..old bottles, signage, mirrors, antique tap handles....staff is very knowledgable and friendly..selection is 500+ tap and bottle/can......prices on par or better than local beer retailers....great food. ample parking, Nice selection of beers, though menu could use some tightening up with more info on pricing, styles, ABV, etc...of course, with rotating selection it’s cheaper to Xerox a generic list with little info, All-in-all......had a great time...enjoyed it and will return soon.
My favorite stop for a drink and conversation in Indy. Great selection of craft and imports available, surprisingly good atmosphere considering the location (inside a strip mall/old Target). Bar staff is friendly and attentive, food is solid if not innovative, but the beer is the reason to come.
Cool place in a strange location. Off of the main drag, yet somewhat secluded, which is good. Next to a pottery place he heh. Awesome stuff on draft, FFF a-king, old rasputin, double bastard, and even some awesome stuff that you cant find anywhere. Strike up a convo about craft with the bartender and you won’t regret it, very knowledgeable. Non smoking, a plus, and wasn’t rowdy or crazy desite all the people at the bar taking down major domestics. Cool people and a nice and calm atmosphere.Really enjoyed.
In town visiting friends and family and needed a good beer bar to visit while in town. My brother reccomended this place.
When we first pulled up to this place, nearly hidden in a half empty strip mall, I was a bit unsure whether this was a hidden gem or just a hole in the wall. The atmoshpere was quite warm and inviting. Lots of dark wood with empty beer bottles and tap handles lining the walls.
We sat at the bar, so the service seemed pretty good. We never found ourselves with an empty glass without being asked if we were ready for another round. The bartender seemed fairly knowlegable about the 40 or so beers they had on tap. The only downside was that the bartender seemed to struggle with a good pour, I think as much beer was overflow as made it into our glasses.
The selection is terrific. Like I mentioned before there are around 40 beers on tap, and many times more than that in bottles.
The prices seemed to be on par with most other places, and they had several beers on "special" for around $3.50 a pint. Overall a good place, I will probably visit again when I am in Indy next.
Off intersection in strip mall with good parking in lot. Interesting interior with bar in the center and tables along outside walls. Freindly staff. 40 taps and large bottle list. Found a new beer. Did not try food.Good location.
A beer junkies dream 500 plus beers and some hard to find draft beers . The beer is expensive but you cant find some of lt anywhere else. The food is typical bar food with chicken swamp nachos being worth a try.
Visited on a recent trip to Indianapolis. Part of a larger strip mall in the area, and had a nice cozy feel to it. Excellent selection of both tap and bottled beer representing some of the best in the area. Founders Breakfast Stout was on tap this particular day which was a real treat for a Florida ratebeerian. I have eaten here twice and the food and beer were both excellent both times. Definitely worth a stop when in the area.
