Visited on a Friday at the beginning of July 2015. Smells good! Great tap list. Sat at the bar first. Delicious pulled pork, brisket, corn bread, and more. Excellent beers to try, local brews and from farther away. Would definitely return if in the area again. (4/8/13/9/8/16) 82
A local brought me here for dinner at 6:15 on a Saturday night, and the hostess asked if we wanted to wait 35 minutes for a table. She seated us at the bar, where we had two excellent servers and met some interesting other people. There were almost 50 beers on tap, mostly from Michigan, so I didn’t even look at the bottle list. My friend took the waiter’s excellent suggestion of Chicken Strut, and I tried the half slab of St. Louis cut ribs with our choice of 5 sauces in front of us. The food was great, especially this sides, but the beer selection and knowledge of the staff was even better. We were not rushed, and didn’t have to wait long for anything (including finding free parking across the busy, street in a neighborhood near downtown, yet bleak enough to remind us that we were in Detroit). A very enjoyable hour spent here, with no regrets at all. It’s not cheap, but not too gentrified either.

An oasis in the wasteland of Detroit. Sketchy and interesting neighborhood, parking is not the issue people make it out to be. This single gentrified block houses this quite nice and very busy location. Tap and bottle list are expansive and great. No samplers so it limits your drinking. Food is great, mac and cheese way over hyped. For what you get a good deal and service was nice and friendly. Except for the food coma afterwards a great place to visit.
Don’t know how I haven’t rated this place yet. Been here tons of times. Amazing food, amazing beer. Always a great tap list. I recommend the Chicken Strut (smoked Amish half chicken) or the regular Pulled Pork. The mac n’ cheese & sweet potato mash are excellent side dishes, too. Tap list rotates often with lots of gems popping up now & then. They recently had bottles of King Henry for only 30$ (cheap, considering the current aftermarket price). Service is dependent upon the day you go, the server you get, & how busy they are. Food generally comes out quick, as most of it is obviously "done" already. Prices are a touch high & the wait time to get in can be long on weekends or during sporting events. But a must-stop for people who love good beer & BBQ.
A nice popular stop in Detroit. You can usually expect a bit of a wait here as it’s usually pretty packed. A cool look inside and patio area. A nice big brew selection of taps on the chalk board. Also a pretty big bottle selection with bombers. A lot of locals and others. The service is usually pretty average with a nice staff. The food is really good with a nice BBQ style selection. I’ve had things from fish to sandwiches to ribs all good stuff. The best thing in the whole place is the mac and cheese. Absolutely amazing. Most dishes come with choice of two sides and I usually have to go with two macs. A couple negatives are the usual long wait, pretty high prices, and can get very hot in the summer. Overall a nice place and I will continue to visit.
Immediately after you set foot inside the smell of amazing food overwhelms the senses. Next you see a top notch tap list that is a combination of the best in Michigan and a few from further afield. Put together it would be hard to come here without finding at least one worthwhile draft. Prices are typical of a high end place with the more limited going up to about $8.
The neighborhood itself is a little rough but there should be ample parking. While I may not go on a Friday night this is a definite stop in Detroit for Sunday brunch. Come hungry and leave full of great pork, ribs, and a couple pints of your favorite Midwestern styles.
Excellent tap selection, and traditionally uncommon - the most "common" beer I saw on tap here was Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald. Most of the beers are Michigan-centric with a sprinkling of non-MI. The first time I stopped by here I was lucky enough to stop by on the day when they were tapping KBS ’13. It’s covered in wood paneling giving it a cabin-esque feel. It always seems to be crowded when I go here (even on a Tuesday night), but I think that says more about this being an oasis in a relatively run-down part of Detroit (a little more than most - be careful about where you park there are "break-in" warning signs). Well worth the trip , and the potential wait - the brisket and baby back ribs are excellent!
