always crowded, lots of families and after work people. perky waitstaff. walking distance from where I lived in "the Game" for seven years. above average brews and mediocre food, but pizzas are allright. no windows in the pool area, so I could never be there during the daytime. nice place to meet with friends. why so few ratings? thereís lots of other fun stuff to do in the area, and Burlingame peeps arenít that into beer.
Large, airy space, unfortunately uncomfortably hot even though it was quite pleasant outside; I waited forever to be seated even though I was the only person waiting. 8 beers on tap, generally mediocre. Sampler of 8 available for only $13.00. Did not try the food. Useable WiFi.
Lunch stop after a morning flight home. Definitely in the busy part of Burlingame. I was able to find free street parking a couple blocks away just before noon, however. Place had some business but was far from full. Fairly large inside, with a couple of separated dining areas and a largeish bar. Kitchen to the left of the bar in view. Hard to rate service; bartender was nice, but spent a lot of time playing jumble on the job as well. Fairly standard Steelhead lineup running. I made the mistake of getting the Hef before checking ratings; donít do that yourself. Food was decent, nothing special. All in all a relatively forgettable experience.
(Visited 06/2013): Steelhead Burlingame is located on California Drive not too far off the 101. There is a metered parking lot across the street from the building.
The exterior of the old brick building features large windows. The inside opens to a large spacious brick room with a high ceiling. Restaurant seating on the left and a winding bar on the right with a marble countertop. There is a pool hall in a separate area of the building too. A chalkboard behind the bar lists the beers, and there is an ornate copper draught system. Brewing equipment is visible through windows behind the bar.
The beer selection consists of 8 house beers. Pretty standard styles, including an IPA, Amber, Irish Stout and Hefeweizen. The beers are all decent although nothing stands out, and they are available in a sampler.
Service at the bar on a weekday lunch was good. The bartender was familiar with the beers and attentive.
Steelheadís food is pretty good. I had fish tacos for lunch and enjoyed them.
Overall this is not a place I would put in the upper echelon of beer spots in the area but it is a worthwhile brewpub to visit in the San Mateo area.
Finally went back here for the first time since they changed owners/names. Back then it was a different brewery (Burlingame Brewing or something like that, changed in the mid 90s).
Beer is surprisingly decent and its near the Cal Train station so thats a plus. Didnt try the food and it was the middle of the day, right around Christmas so it was kind of dead. Will have to revisit some time.
This place is around forever, since I was a kid and growing up here. The restaurant is huge and very nicely decorated. The beers are actually not bad and they have quite a few of them on tap. The bartenders were nice, too. Prices arenít the greatest, but itís Burlingame, so you canít really expect much else. Kind of weird to come here and drink just a short walk from my high school.
On the day of arrival from Sweden my local frien brought me to the Steelhead brewery. It is a brewery and not a pub, but from time to time they have an open brewery with other local brewers invited. The beer is not that many different varietys but all are OK. The food is a small selection and not that good when I was there. It seem they just started a litle while ago but they are getting their brewing in good shape. If my good friend Bob still lives in San Carlos the next time I visit San Fransisco Iíll come by them and see whatís new.
I think they will improve.
Located in a old big warehouse. A large dinning area with a fairly small bar compared to the rest of the building that faces the brewery. Off the restaurant is a billiard room with about 7 pool tables, with taps in the room. Service was good, considering it was Tuesday night and the place was packed. Food and beer was good. Food was on the high side, but the good price of the beer averaged it out. Iíll be back.
