An odd Victorian style interior with an old, crowded bar area. The seafood chef is the first thing you see as you walk into this place. The food was pretty good but over-priced. The beers were very good, and there were several available in bottles to go. Our server drew the straw on a group table part way through, so our service declined thereafter.
Driving east in PA and saw a billboard on the side of the highway, so we stopped. The restaurant has a very German farmhouse meets warm wooden restaurant feel to it. We came in and sat down and waited. And waited. And waited some more. Finally, someone came from the back to wait on us, despite it being Monday afternoon and three other people in the place with us. The traditional beers were fantastic - the kolsch in particular. There was some confusion between the brewer and the waitress as to what beer was on cask, but the beers were good. It was a quick in-and-out stop, but definitely a cool spot.
Stopped here after a google search while stuck on a work trip in the central PA wasteland. Boy was I glad I did. You walk in and see the crazy antique decorations and sidle up to the bar. Homemade cheese ? Absolutely! More beers on tap you can shake a stick at, and the bartender will let you sample anything you’d like. Then the food. Oh my god the FOOD. The Jaegerschnitzel was mind blowing. I loved this place, only wish it was alot closer than 3 hours away. Will definitely be back.
Had a great time here. People were great. Had a nice german meal that was fantastic. They do a really nice brewery tour. The dinner menu looks really great as well. A few hours from my house or id be going all time. They have a lot of great session style beers- kolsch, heller, german pils...and it’s best at the bar stool. Service was excellent and people were really nice.

It sure is a nice problem to have, when you have trouble deciding which is better, the food or the craft beer. Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Or as you can ask here at Stoudt’s, which came first, the great food or the wonderful craft beer? Actually the history of Stoudt’s is that the owner Ed wanted good, high quality beer to match the fine food he was serving. He actually went out and learned the art of micro brewing - years ago, before it became fashionable. Ed Stoudt is a nationally known pioneer in craft brewing in the Eastern United States. This is a well established,quality micro brewery (there is actually a small brewery attached to the restaurant). the American Pale Ale is in my opinion, one of the three best American Pale Ale’s brewed in America today. The "Fat Dog Stout" is also notable here. My wife and I had the incredibly good brisket sandwich, which went so well with the "beer sampler" that we each had. A beer sampler is four 6 oz glasses of beer that you get to pick from the beer menu, for $8 per sampler. Our total bill came to $38.26 for the two of us. There are some very nice, pricier entrees on the menu.
I consider this a "destination restaurant", one for a special event or a romantic evening - which would be worth driving over 50 miles to travel to. There is a great family owned antique outlet right next door. After dinner, my wife and I picked up PA Route #897 right down the road, and made the short twenty minute trip through the country to the "Middle Creek" bird sanctuary to see the snow geese and the Canada geese.
I love the look of an old German tavern. It gave me ideas for the German tavern I’m putting in my basement. Excellent selection of beer. Food is above average. A couple employees could use charm lessons.
Unique brewpub that’s part of a larger "Stoudts" complex that fits right in with the numerous antique stores that surround it. Inside, the place looked like it hadn’t been updated since it opened a few decades ago. Small bar for the size of the place, but plenty of tables. Featured a lot of house beers and most that we sampled were really good. Also had a few special release bottles for sale. Food was great with most of the menu favoring beef entrees. Little on the pricy side, but the beers and food were worth the cost.
Ate at bar and did the tours today. Had a bratwurst sandwich and a few Gold Helles. Both were good, service is ok. The tour was great. Bar is small and Resturant is old worldly and not the best atmosphere.
