A must visit if you are beerhunting in Edmonton. Decent bottle list covering a wide range of styles, a few rotating taps and some limited release stuff in bottles too. Proper glassware is used, draughts are poured well. Staff are pretty knowledgeable about what they are serving. Water is constantly replenished on the table. Small menu with some comfort food items and burgers. They’re supposed to do a pretty wicked brunch as well. Also serves coffee and deserts. Good value, good atmosphere. Time your visit well, this place is small and seating is very limited. You may also experience a wait for a washroom on busier nights as they toilets are single occupancy. Also if you’re checking out their beer menu online, and it looks a bit lame, the actually beer menu inside is more interesting and quite a bit larger. Theses are just minor quibbles, overall this is in my top 5 places in the country, even a seasoned rater will probably find something to rate.
2015-06-04. Garage doors out front, copper topped rounded bar, brick walls are covered in colourful art. I’m one of the oldest people here by a good margin - the proximity to the university is likely a factor. Bartenders are friendly, today featuring a tall laid back hipster bunned dude and the adorably bespectacled female lead in an indie romance. Definitely the most character of any of the beer places I have been in Edmonton. Food menu is short but fairly solid. I wasn’t that hungry but was tempted by the chicken and waffles which is decadently indulgent. Chicken is lightly breaded and waffles are flavourful without being too sweet. Tap list is good but not overly exciting, pretty decent bottle list as well. Mix of Alberta and BC crafts and some imports. I opted for a La Chouffe after they were out of several of my first choices. Not a bad fall back! Great spot, but beer wise there are other options in town.
Trendy grungy feel of a place with a nice tap selection. Most of if was imports with only 2 Alberta beers on tap at the time. Extensive bottle selection, which included a reasonably priced Lou Pepe Kriek. Service was friendly. Appetizer we had was decent. Worth a stop.
Went to Sugarbowl for the first time on my last visit to Edm. Fun university pub w a seriously good selection of beers. Service was a little slow but once it got going I started making my way through the list and wasn’t disappointed, can’t wait for my next visit.
A young hip pub with a great vibe. One of the more diverse beer menu’s in town, but a tad overpriced. Service is rarely very good or quick and unfortunately more often than not they know little about the beer. Menu is interesting and food is generally pretty good.
A restaurant that seems geared for the university crowd. There is at least 9 beers on tap at any given time and a wide selection of bottles available, I counted 88 on the menu. The food is standard pub fare and the service is pretty good.
Decided to check this place out on my latest trip yo Edmonton. We rolled in at about 8 on a Sunday night, and the place was packed. Very young crowd, mostly students, loud but in a ’small place that’s packed’ way, not in a ’people being drunk idiots’ way. Tap list was pretty impressive, good mix of Alberta breweries and the better class of imports, bottle list wasn’t the largest in Alberta, but was thoughtfully written. Didn’t eat, but we enjoyed this place. Probably the best ’scene’ beer-wise in Alberta.
