One of the new beer pubs in Antwerp, situated in a busy street in the old town centre. Basically a brown café with an extensive list of Belgian beers, including Struise beers from tap (though the rest of the Belgian beer list is rather predictable); more recently, they started expanding their range with (rather overpriced) foreign beers from ’hip’ breweries like De Molen and Nögne Ö, which keeps it interesting for me to return to this pub every now and then. Small and crowded, it is not always easy to find a comfortable place to sit, but the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. Service is good, the owner is clearly passionate and knowledgeable about beer. If the place is not too busy, they are happy to chat with you about their beer passion, which is always nice. I pass here every time I’m in Antwerp.
Visited on july 30. Small cozy place in the center of Antwerp. They have a nice selection on tap with one dedicated to Struise (Double Black was on when I visited...). A fair amount of bottles with some rare ones at reasonable prices. Service was great, Dylan (kraddel) is a really cool and knowledge guy.
Spent an evening here on a recent trip to Belgium. They have some. Incredible and rare beer. Prices are reasonable.
What made this place really special was the bartender, Dylan. He was exceptionally knowledgeable and really helpful in guiding me to pick the right beers.
Located in Hoogstraat, one of the pedestrian lanes leading to the Groote Markt with its beautiful City Hall and merchant houses, this rather tiny place has definitely an impressive selection of bottles, featuring the well-known and respected Belgian classics. The 13 taps have something decent to offer, too. the staff, two decent ladies, are kind and friendly. I have kot tried the food - perhaps next time. Not exactly cheap but decent. A nice place to visit when in town.
P.S. Bonus ambience points for the quite ingenious water tap in the toilet!
Simply put: the best beer bar -next to the Kulminator maybe- in the center of Antwerp. They always have multiple good beers on tap, of which the Struise-tap and the Rodenbach Foederbier-tap are my alltime favorites. They have great knowledgeable staff, and you will always find a couple of beer geeks to talk to if the staff doesn’t have time.
Pretty spectacular place that specializes in their bottle selection, which features some fantastic lambics and an extensive Struise selection among other things. Quite a small place, but in the better weather months, the small outside is very charming. Service was fantastic - Dylan (kraddel) was very generous. A must stop in Antwerp.
The ambience of these places with the dried hop vines and antique beer signs is kind of silly, but also kind of fun. The bottle cooler is in open view here, making the selection process simpler and more thorough; the bottle selection is extensive with lots of obscure options, while the tap list is solid. If already in Antwerp, this is the definite second place to stop, and the more comfortable.
Visited with Tom. Came here on a Friday afternoon to enjoy a nice bottle of lambic on the terasse in the sun. Nice newer bar in the center of Antwerp. They have a nice selection, a few good bottled lambics, some unblended lambics, a few good taps including a rotating Struise tap. Dylan gave us some top notch service and a nice welcome which was appreciated. Prices are reasonable, especially for the location (which is very nice). Great place to enjoy some beers.
