I like the outdoor bar at thus place, although the inside is cozy too, and has a view of the brewing equipment. They have ten of their beets on tap and offer a complete sampler. But the beers are generally safe and unadventurous, appropriate, I guess, for a tourist location. So maybe you should also leave this one to the tourists.
Stopped in on a Thursday night in between some of the rock shows I was in town to see. There seemed to be an outdoor patio-ish area in front and inside felt like a pretty typical sports bar, almost...could just be that a lot of people were there watching the football game.
They had a lot of beers on tap (about a dozen house taps) so that was cool. You can do all of them in tasters as well, which is nice. Of course, we got the full set. Guest beers available, too. Beer quality was sort of up and down. Enjoyed a few of them but thought others were real misses.
Didn’t really look at the food menu at all, but seemed like kind of what you’d expect for an older brewpub like this.
The server working the bar was friendly enough, though I thought service was kind of lackadaisical and slow...though I will give them the benefit of the doubt for being busy and the fact that I ordered 12 tasters...
It’s an easy enough place to visit if you’re in Ybor City, but it’s not worth going out of your way just to come here.

Visited November 2002: selection of very good beers, outstanding food, and friendly atmosphere and service!
(Visited 07/2014): Tampa Bay Brewing is located off I-4 on E 8th Ave not too far outside of downtown in Ybor City. Street parking is pretty abundant in the surrounding blocks.
TBBC is in a pretty multi-level brick "Centro Ybor" building shared by a Movico. Walking in to the building you encounter an open-air exterior bar, then a doorway to the brewpub. Inside the brewpub it is relatively dark with table and booth seating and a bar along the right side. Brewing equipment is right in the dining area and there are a ton of club mugs hanging everywhere. Neon sign behind the bar, and a couple chalk boards listing the beers.
As for the beers, the list numbers 12, with 9 being of the year-round variety and the other 3 on the seasonal side of the board. On my visit the seasonals included an Amarillo SMASH, Tripel and Saison. The standard stuff is pretty typical of brewpubs like this, and they have a root beer too. A sampler of the beers is available, and they were all pretty average.
Service at the bar on a weekday afternoon was pretty good. The bartender was attentive and fairly knowledgeable about the beer menu.
I did not have any food on my visit.
Overall the quality (or uniqueness) of the beers here are not on par with Cigar City but this is a decent beer stop in Tampa.
Has a corporate feel but still manages to feel like a nice place to sit for a while. Large outdoor patio area. Good service and a great excuse to see Ybor.

Pretty typical brewpub atmosphere, nothing to report. Food was okay. I quite liked the beers, though. The basic session beers were strong, at least as strong as the seasonals. I favored the maltier styles here.
In the tourist part of town, well patrolled by police. The place is very nice, with a covered but outdoor bar and tables, and an inside part with the main bar, and there I was. Service is very attentive, maybe too much so. A bit of knowledge about the beers. The barleywine is the one worth having. Friendly touristy crowd, and I would return even though no guest taps.
Visited once more on January 25, 2014 Got a sample plate, didn’t eat this time around. Place was fairly packed, though it was the weekend of some festival. A bit slow service to the table this evening.
First visit Visited for lunch January 21, 2011. Nice service, good food, well handled sampler tray. Got to chat with the brewer that also brought us some specials, had a good time.
Stopped here for lunch and got parking at a meter directly in front of brewpub. Service was quick and freindly. Ordered the sampler of nine brews. David the brewer noticed my rating and we discussed brews and he opened a cask IPA for me. Selection was very good and they had a brew for each major style. After I had tasted sampler, I reviewed the complete menu and ordered calamari. Hard dish to cook properly, but this was done perfectly and was a very nice portion. I agree that this is an essential stop.
