This was a very good restaurant with solid beer offerings. The location is excellent and would be a regular hangout spot for me if I lived in Tampa. Bartender was friendly and attentive and never left me thirsty. They had 8 of their beers on tap I think plus several other microbrews. The food is standard pubfare but is definitely tasty. Prices are about average. Their beer isn’t as good as Cigar City’s but their location and the fact that they serve food definitely makes this a great place to visit.
Nice spot in the middle of a small shopping area. Limited parking nearby. Service was fast and friendly with several choices of limited beers as well as the standards. Food was excellent and a good value. Would like to spend a little more time here next time.
Stopped in on a Thursday night in between some of the rock shows I was in town to see. There seemed to be an outdoor patio-ish area in front and inside felt like a pretty typical sports bar, almost...could just be that a lot of people were there watching the football game.
They had a lot of beers on tap (about a dozen house taps) so that was cool. You can do all of them in tasters as well, which is nice. Of course, we got the full set. Guest beers available, too. Beer quality was sort of up and down. Enjoyed a few of them but thought others were real misses.
Didn’t really look at the food menu at all, but seemed like kind of what you’d expect for an older brewpub like this.
The server working the bar was friendly enough, though I thought service was kind of lackadaisical and slow...though I will give them the benefit of the doubt for being busy and the fact that I ordered 12 tasters...
It’s an easy enough place to visit if you’re in Ybor City, but it’s not worth going out of your way just to come here.
Second visit. First one was maybe 5 years ago. Selection had not changed much. Some seasonals available. Beer quality above average. Service above average. Nice bar area. Beer garden like area out front. Large table area available. Very nice place.
Great atmosphere and food. The beer is average, nothing special but, You can build flights for $1.50 per 4 oz pour. It’s easy to try everything. About 8 of their own brews available with a few taps for guest beers and a full liquor bar. The Cuban sandwich is excellent and the Bomb burger with pizza dough is a must. Outdoor bar, brewpub style seating with the fermenters, friendly service. Cool spot.
The good points: service was fast, friendly and very helpful. Should note our table was right next to the back side bar. The food was very good with large portions. I had the meatloaf wrapped in bacon sitting on a bed of cheddar cheese mashed potatoes, very tasty.
The bad points: the beer was below average to average at best. I sampled 7 brews and not one I would want to return for. The feel of the beer is a tad out dated. They were out of cask condition ales and the imperial stout. Not one extreme beer offering.
Large venue with both indoor and outdoor seating including a large table for large parties. 8 regular taps [although out of one on my visit] plus 3 seasonals. Good service but understaffed for the large mid week lunch crowd. Food looked good. Large pub atmosphere. Flatscreen TVs available but not featured.
(Visited 07/2014): Tampa Bay Brewing is located off I-4 on E 8th Ave not too far outside of downtown in Ybor City. Street parking is pretty abundant in the surrounding blocks.
TBBC is in a pretty multi-level brick "Centro Ybor" building shared by a Movico. Walking in to the building you encounter an open-air exterior bar, then a doorway to the brewpub. Inside the brewpub it is relatively dark with table and booth seating and a bar along the right side. Brewing equipment is right in the dining area and there are a ton of club mugs hanging everywhere. Neon sign behind the bar, and a couple chalk boards listing the beers.
As for the beers, the list numbers 12, with 9 being of the year-round variety and the other 3 on the seasonal side of the board. On my visit the seasonals included an Amarillo SMASH, Tripel and Saison. The standard stuff is pretty typical of brewpubs like this, and they have a root beer too. A sampler of the beers is available, and they were all pretty average.
Service at the bar on a weekday afternoon was pretty good. The bartender was attentive and fairly knowledgeable about the beer menu.
I did not have any food on my visit.
Overall the quality (or uniqueness) of the beers here are not on par with Cigar City but this is a decent beer stop in Tampa.
Another asset of Tampa. Great layout and building. If you drink too much it is perfectly located next to a hotel or the courthouse. Your choice!. Beers are very good, but alas minimal.guest taps. Good food selection. Prices are r reasonable. Staff is friendly. What more could you ask?
